Thanks John,
While the front is a bit of a mess, anyone who collects Tas pre-adhesive markings would probably have an interest as the TAs markings on the back are pretty good and the Ship Mail boxed handstamp is not easy to find

Re: Incoming boxed SHIPLETTER Marking
This handstamp was used between 27 .10.1846 and 21.09.1852. Id say its scarce to rare meaning examples are only seen from time to time but there are examles in quite a few collections. Van Diemen's Land pre-ahhesive mail is rare in the 1820s, very scarce though the 1830s less scarce in the 1840s and...

Re: Incoming boxed SHIPLETTER Marking
It’s a Hobart ship Mail inwards making which indicates the ship berthed in Hobart initially. Launceston did I not have a seperate Ship mail handstamp at this time and used the circular handstamp as a general purpose mark. If you know the name of the ship perhaps we could confirm its arrival from the...

Re: What’s this ?
More of a guess than an answer but it’s very early for a Tasmanian picture postcard, nor does it have a Postcard back, address or stamp so I’d say it’s not a picture postcard. I don’t recall any picture postcards before 1898.

Looks like it was printed in half tone so probably on a Newspaper press.

Re: £1 Tablet postally used, mostly in 1900?
Bill,
I agree with your observation but have never come across an explanation.
Some Tasmanian items come from one particular hoard or source and perhaps these postally used tablet stamps are all from one accumultion which only included items from a particular timeframe. Just a guess really.

Re: New Post office Savings bank & Money Order Office datestamp (?)
Thanks Allen. Since the first example turned up I have gone through a lot of Free Mail covers and found there quite a few oval datestamps struck in purple on government agency envelopes. It seems that these are brass handstamps that were designed to identify correspondence with the name of the Agenc...

Re: Huon River Letter Card
I'm not sure but assuming its taken from the W bank looking upstream its either just below the current location of Huonville or some way downstream further South that Franklin, perhaps the Waterloo or Surges Bay area. I say this because there is a long low-lying island in the middle of the River fro...

Re: Postally used George and Dragon
John, St George and Dragon stamps postally used are relatively scarce and sometimes the cancel is forged as a result. Its especially difficult to find on cover. The ones I see are almost awaysl fiscally used My understanding is the "Killer" canceller was used at Melbourne GPO as Jerry says. It would...

Re: DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
This seems to be a mystery, assuming it's a Tasmanian datestamp as none of the POs beginning with CAMP... are recorded as having the type R2a datetsamp. The only example of the type 2a I am familiar with is the PAID AT Franklin while your example is POST OFFICE etc.. A little bit more of the datesta...

Greg, Thank you for posting this. I have not seen this format before. It seems the various forms and also official covers changed over the years. Re: Codlin Moth Act of 188
Greg, the following may may be of use. The Codlin Moth Act was passed by the Tasmanian Colonial Government to control the moth as it was destroying apples as you know. The act, copy here https://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/tas/num_act/tcma188852vn16212.pdf had copious details about how the pest was ...

Re: Codlin Moth Act of 188
Greg, I can check a Postal Guide around the period your cover was posted and see what I can find. The rate would not take account of any Tasmanian Act so it must be covered by Australian Commonwealth postal regulations. I entered a one-framer at CAPEX recently on the Tasmanian Free Mail regulations ...

Re: Codlin Moth Act of 1888
I think what you have is a cover that had the status of Free Mail under the Tasmanian Post Office jurisdiction but when the Commonwealth took over the State Post Offices after Federation in 1901, the rules changed and this mail became subject to new Commonwealth regulations. The Codlin Moth Act did ...

New Post office Savings bank & Money Order Office datestamp (?)
Recently a Post Office Savings bank cover dated 2 De 1892 has come to light. The cover is a form letter from the Post Office Savings Bank office, GPO Hobart to Fingal and is a Post Ofice form confirming a deposit of 5/- by the Fingal Post Master on behalf of Master Herbert Williams. The cover was se...

In November 2021, the TPS publish a major new work by Malcolm Groom and Allen Shatten - "Tasmanian Postal Stationer y". Bill, I have been collecting Tas Railway Tickets for some 15 years and have seen less than half a dozen of these tickets in any value during that time. I have two 3d tickets in my collection only. These are on the back of an envelope addressed to Tattersalls in Hobart. Exactly what they were paying ...
