Re: NEED ASSISTANCE WITH IDENTIFYING POSTMARKS? - ASK HERE !
Hi Mike, Sorry I should have looked closer rather than faster. It is the Hobart Registered Type 1 cds with circle stops. "Registered" at the top and "Hobart" at the bottom. Sorry about the delay in replying as we have been working outside landscaping our new home. Retired but never busier. Hobart re...

Re: NEED ASSISTANCE WITH IDENTIFYING POSTMARKS? - ASK HERE !
I had a quick look through Hardinge's "The Post Offices and their Datestamps" but was unable to identify this Hobart CDS. Dated Ap 15th 1907, Circle Stops HOBART. Help needed. Sorry about the poor image, it was the best I could get with a screen image. Screenshot_20240615_162049_Chrome.jpg Hi Mike,...

Re: EARLY MANUSCRIPT CANCELLATIONS - POST IMAGES/ANY QUESTIONS??
Here is a question to those more knowledgeable than myself on MSS cancellations prior to the issue of 2nd Allocation BNs. Does the "River Don" mss also just have a "Don" mss, or does the "Don" image shown below represent a partial mss? Don mss 1860.jpg I have shown two full "River Don" mss for refer...

Hobart Pillar Receiver Type 1(x) cds
I would just like to put out for comment an image of the above cds without the "R" in "P.R." at the base of the cds. Hobart Pillar Receiver No R.jpg The absence of "P.R." is noted as omitted in Hardinges Compendium for this but not a partial omission. Date of that know omission was 2.1.1900. As the ...

Re: Launceston Code K Cancel Variety
Hi Jerry, I had to have a think about this one but I think that the code is just inverted as it is not possible to reverse a code. Tried it on paper before replying. This code is not symmetrical and the lower stroke of the "K" extends from the upper stroke of "K" near the downstroke. Inverting the c...

Devonport West cds R2a(x)(ii)
This rubber cds with the "West" removed has a late use date of 28.12.1933 in Hardinge's Compendium. However in the image shown it has been used to cancel a 3d Centenary of the Settlement of Victoria which was issued 2.7.1934. Date of the cds is 31.10.1934 so this pushes it out a further ten months. ...

Re: Postally used George and Dragon
Thanks Jerry and Pete,
I meant to say it was used on ship mail from Tasmania to Melbourne but I have obviously lost the plot. As they say never proof read your own work.

Postally used George and Dragon
I need a bit of help please. Recently acquired a 2/6 George and Dragon, watermark 1, perf11.8, but appearing to be postally used and cancelled with the Killer Obliterator 1 that I believe was used on ship mail between Tasmania and Hobart (refer image). I have compared the Killer Obliterator to other...

I am interested in trying to answer Ross' "Query: Paid at Launceston 1912". Or at least get a definitive description of the Type 4R steel datestamp. Burnie Type 1 (solid stops)(ii)
Found this rather poor partial Burnie cds and had it sorted into my Type 1(solid stops)(i) but that cds has a late use date of 2.9.1901 against that of AP 17 06 on the image shown. It does not match any other of my Burnie Type 1 cds due mainly to the narrow lettering of "Burnie" and the small space ...

Re: 1d Pictorial London printings late use
The "T" perforation on the engraved De la Rue 1d Pictorial is an interesting subject. I have attached an image of one used at Lagunta in March 1910. Can only see the "R" of the March i.e. "MR" but this was only month to use the "R" as the last letter for the month. Perforation is 7 x 6. Pictorial 1d...

Here are two more Kraus photo cards of the Ross Bridge. Both have blank backs, and is why I have called them photo cards and not postcards. What appears to be the more modern of the two has "Kraus Photo Service Scamander' on the front and the other has "Kraus Photo Longford" on the reverse. Both are...

With all the fraudulent perforations being offered for sale on ebay it is heartening to see reputable sellers still offering quality genuine items. Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc
Here is something that I am not convinced is the real thing. Advertised as a double perf the holes on the double perf are irregular sizes compared perimeter perfs. I have dealt with this dealer before and have been more than happy but I think it may be a case of not knowing what is genuine and what ...
