Re: Tas Railway Parcel rates 1917
Peter, nice find! Interestingly there is a 4d stamp issued but no 4d parcel rate. Also the parcel rates go to 2/6d for 112lb but there is no 2/6d stamp issued. Dave Dave, in Hobart and Launceston parcels could be delivered for 1d extra. By far the most common parcel was at the 3d rate, hence the 4d...

John, it probably is something new. It seems bizarre enough that this exists with no PR, but it does.

I am interested in trying to answer Ross' "Query: Paid at Launceston 1912". Or at least get a definitive description of the Type 4R steel datestamp. Volume 1 of the Green Books describe the image shown by Ross as "Launceston Special Useage Markings Type 6. "circular date stamp 26mm in diameter PAID...

It is indeed Burnie Type 1(dot stops) (ii). It's quite a hard cancels to find. I cannot really put my finger on what it was used for. It's mainly seen on normal postage rate stamps, but it just really quite rare.

Re: POST 1912 MANUSCRIPT CANCELLATIONS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
First one I cannot decipher. The manuscript is spread over two stamps, so only half of it is there. dates a "5" for 1915. Second one could be anything. No guarantee it's Tasmanian. I will say the CDS looked like "An". Can't be a coincidence the Mss looks to show an "An" as well. Third one is more in...

Have had a good look at this and I am 99.5% sure it's simply a name, probably off a receipt. IT could be the name of a postmaster, making it postal. Almost 100% sure it's not a P.O name.

Re: DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
I wish I could offer some insight but I could only be "Post Office" and either Campania or Campbell Town if Tasmanian. The balance of probability is that it's a NSW cancel, which as a state used these rubber CDS quite extensively. It's worth keeping aside.

Milabena
Milabena is a postmark that has been long speculated about. Registration labels, actual printed labels, are known(3), one with a partial postmark. I wonder if the partial postmark is actually this? milabena postmark.jpg The late John Avery spoke to the postmaster's son back in the day, who indicated...

Jerry, sorry to be a bit vague, but I have seen this cancel before. It's not Tasmanian, or Australian for that matter. It may well be a U.K cancels. I just cannot think where I have seen it before, sorry.

1858 6d dull lilac and 1/- Vermillion
I was scanning Trove for postmark related info and came across an entry that stated "the new stamps have arrived". These would be the 6d and 1/-. Date was Tuesday 14th, which would indicate that the new stamps arrived Monday 13.1.1858. Improves the information in Gibbons which is just "January".

I would say 65 John. You can see the ball on the foot of the 5. Cannot be 29(which is a much rarer number in any case).

I would say it's been cancelled and then cancelled again, the second stamp being deemed not obliterated fully.
