Tasmanian postcards "Printed in Germany"
In my last posting about “Printed in Saxony” I provided some information about McVilly & Little Subscript “a” cards, which were printed by Emil Pinkau, of Leipzig, Germany. Now I have found some information about printing of some other McVilly & Little cards. The source of my information is Helmfrie...

Another unknown publisher
Does anyone know who published the card below? They don't give any clue as to who they are at all. On the front there is "Series 3519", suggesting they have published a lot of cards. It looks like their economy line, printed in monochrome on fairly poor quality card. Many it was the start of the ano...

Who published "Tassie Series" cards?
The card below is labelled "Tassie Series" Post Cards. Is there any information about these - who published them, other titles in the series? I can see another one on the www, titled "Winter, Fern Tree Bower", but that's all I can find.

Tasmanian cards "Printed in Saxony"
There are many Tasmanian postcards that are marked as “Printed in Saxony” or “Printed in Germany”, and carry various types of printers codes. Who were the printers in Saxony or Germany that printed these cards? If we can work that out, we may be able to work out when the cards were printed, and work...

Re: WHOIZIT? SEEK ASSISTANCE WITH PUBLISHERS/PHOTOGRAPHERS H
The first question here is, who was the publisher? I can't find anywhere mention of HAC, HCA or any of the combinations of H, A and C.
The second question is, why was the verandah removed from the hospital?

Mystery McVilly & Little cards
I have two cards in a series of monochrome McVilly & Little cards that is quite unlike their other cards. Some of their other cards are monochrome, but they have 'Printed in Saxony' on them. The characteristics are: - Printed by halftone in black and white. - Poor quality, fuzzy faint printing on fa...

Re: Cards published by A.J. Holloway, Hobart - Do you have a
A search of Trove shows that A.J. Holloway ran a shop at 39 Liverpool, "2 doors from Palfreymans Corner". An advertisement on 14 December 1907, p1, advertises a Christmas Sale with fancy goods and stationary. But the following item appeared in The Mercury on 23 January, 1908: Holloway1.gif Look at t...

Re: M & L (McVilly & Little) Series
I have set up a web site for putting Tasmanian post cards and their history on line, and would appreciate feedback and some assistance. I hope this web site can become a communal site for cataloguing Tasmanian postcards, not just my small collection. The site is at: http://beecheyspostcardhistory.or...

Re: REAL PHOTO VIEWS of N.E. TAS by T.R.G. WILLIAMS (Ararat)
There have been some interesting posts recently of cards by T.R.G. Williams, mostly of views of towns in north-east Tasmania. These have been captioned on the front, and numbered. Here is card with his stamp on the back - "T.R.G. Williams Photographer Scottsdale". There is no caption on the front or...

Re: "ASH BESTER" REAL PHOTO CARDS - POSTALLY USED!
Some time back, when discussing used dates of Ash Bester cards, Ross posted a card written in French. In the text was the year 1958, but it was not clear what it referred to. I have had the card translated, and post the original card and translation below. It turns out to be mildly interesting. The ...

Re: REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS by P.M. KOONIN, HOBART
Paltis Michel Koonin (b. 1883 or 1884) was a Russian political activist who spent the years 1907–1912 in Australia. He operated a photographic business in Hobart in the years 1910-1912, during which time he produced a small quantity of interesting and high quality photographic print postcards. Here...

Cards by H.T. Waterworth
Harry Taylor Waterworth (1872- 1947) was a photographer in Hobart in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I have seen only a few cards by him, one of which is shown below. But I expect there are others. He advertised photographic trips to Mt Bischoff and Waratah so there may be cards of those areas. When...

Re: Is this Real Photo card by Geoffrey Bester?
Ross,
I don't think the GMB cards are by Bester. The senior Bester was Glynne Roy Bester, as a child nicknames Robin, then Rob, then Bob. His son is Jeffrey K Bester, with a J, not a G. So keep looking for GMB!

Re: Selwyn Cox Cards Produced for Local Publishers - A Surve
Selwyn Cox seems to have been very prolific in producing names and numbers. Perhaps those who have collected his cards for a period could enlighten me on some aspects: 1. Firstly, the name WYNPHOTOPRINT. This might imply that he was a photo printing shop, but I can see no mention of this. So why did...
