Barred Numeral Crown Seal combo

I have seen crown seals on Pictorials but not where the crown seal has been over stamped by a barred numeral obliterator. The barred numeral of Derby 221 is seen on this 2d Pictorial example but only after the crown seal for Brothers Home had been applied first. I can only speculate that the postmas...

Re: Double perforations on 1d Sideface

Hi Bill, Barred Numeral is a bit of a nuisance with placement near the watermark but it is W16 which should make the stamp SG 160 1d dull red circa 14.2.1889. Do not believe it is SG 171 1d rosine, perf 11 1/2 circa 1891. But then again I am red/green colour confused so I will let you be the judge o...

In April 2021 an unrecorded Hobart cds was discovered. This is best described as a Type 1 with cross stops. date in two lines with year in two figures. This cds dated JY 3 00 was placed in the TSA Online Auction #46. Hobart Type 1(xii) only recorded copy TSA March 2021.jpg This has been the only rec...

Re: NEED ASSISTANCE WITH IDENTIFYING POSTMARKS? - ASK HERE !

I need a bit of help here. I know it is a ratty example but could this be First Allocation 63 or 65. Believe the first numeral is a "6" and it looks like the last is a "5", but this is unlikely as it would make it Three Hut Point. If it is a "3" making it "63" of Launceston it does not look like my ...

On 13th April 2021 the late use of the Hobart Type 1(ix) cds was taken out by approximately four years from 12.2.1902 to 4.4.1906. Hobart Type 1(ix) cds S11 in Green Books.jpg A recent find has taken the early use date back by two days to Ju 5 1900 from 7.6.1900. Not much but shows there is more out...

Thanks Ross, this is a new one to add to the list. Only Nos. 3, 11 and 15 to go now.

Does it have a plain back or a Valentines back? Just keeping a record of those known and format used.

Re: BOOK: THE POST OFFICES & THEIR DATESTAMPS by J. HARDINGE - report updates here!

Hi Ross, The Rhyndaston Type 1 (solid stops) cds is an interesting case for numeral variations. Unlike the abnormal date slugs of the Campbell Town cds of the same period, where the date slugs were very rudimentary, the Rhyndaston cds date slugs all look like they were made by a professional engrave...

Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc

Hi Jerry, Just a short note on this one. We believed, after a few rounds of emails, that this was one of this sellers initial attempts at selling on ebay. We had a look at his history and gave him the benefit of a doubt. Ross contacted him and the items were withdrawn immediately. I feel it may be a...

No problems Ross, Have attached letter from Australia Post. I did contact the ebay vendor and explained the reason for late feedback. She advised that mail posted by her to Devonport the same day my item was posted had gone missing and she had to reimburse the purchaser. Stolen mail Launceston Octob...

Stolen Mail

Last October I purchased a postcard from an eBay vendor that I had dealt with previously but did not receive the item. Due to the nominal value and good past dealings I let it go through to the keeper in the hope that it would turn up eventually. Well it did today with a letter from Australia Post. ...

Hi Allen This is the Type 2 Hobart Duplex as described in Vol 1 of the Green Books page 86, and has clarifying comments regarding damage in Vol 2 of the GBs page 60/61. This is Hardinge's Hobart Duplex 1 (iii). Your code is right as is my example. However this is where you really have to read the Gr...

Re: BOOK: THE POST OFFICES & THEIR DATESTAMPS by J. HARDINGE - report updates here!

I had put the image of this Hobart cds on the identification index as I was unsure if it was the Type 1(ix) Fig 11 in the Green Books and the recent Compendium or the Hobart Type 1(iii) (no stops) in Courier 58 December 2014. I believe it is the Type 1(ix) and if so it had a late use date 12 Feb 190...

Hate to admit it but I am stumped. I have a Hobart Type 1 cds on the way as per the image shown. The East Devonport Type 4a cds (reported use dates 6.10.1935-8.8.1968) is recorded as "Type 4 is 4a with dot not showing". I may be ignorant here but I think this refers to the dot after "TAS". The example shown on a telegram piece has a dot showing after "TAS". Can anyone enlighten me please East D...

Double perforations on 1d Sideface

I have seen many double perforations on Pictorials and have a good spread in my collection as well as a triple perforation. However I purchased this the other day on spec as I have not seen a double perforation on a 1d Sideface. I have not found anything written up on them thus far and wonder if som...

Rosebery Paid R8T Given the last post on the Rosebery Paid cds I have scoured my collection for supporting data/images. But I turned up something else. The Rosebery Paid R8T cds has an early use date of 1.5.1996 coinciding with the possible phasing out of the Rosebery Paid T7b which has a late use d...

Yes I had noticed that error when searching/researching their records. It is only a printing error with the ink incomplete on the top of the "R".
