Re: THE PICTORIALS - EARLIEST USE - PLEASE POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
1d Pictorial 1-12-99.jpg With it generally accepted that the earliest date for the 1d Pictorial London printing as being 14 December 1899 I am trying to make sense (other than and error of date) of this example dates in mss '1/12/99' We have recently seen at TSA auction the Pictorials used for payi...

Re: THE PICTORIALS - EARLIEST USE - PLEASE POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
I can confirm two examples of 1899 use of 1d Pictorials i) 19 December 1899 two 1d pairs on Hobart to Launceston cover which was present in a JRW Purves lot at Christies RL as a photocopy (sold in 1987). Would be nice to know where the original cover got to. ii) 21 December 1899 on Hobart to Launces...

Re: WHEREIZIT? SEEK ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING A VIEW HERE!!!
My "tuppence" worth. It reminds me of the Derwent foreshore near Claremont with Mount Direction in the distance looking south east. The foreshore is very similar near where the Claremont Scout Hall was situated and the Claremont peninsular juts out into the Derwent in the near distance. Somewhere fo...

1907 use of 1d.jpg There have been several examples of the London printing of the One Penny Mount Wellington used Perf. T in 1910 ( a couple of covers and used off cover) but this use in 1907 I have not seen before. The message on the card reads " Did you know that the 1d Multiple Tas. were in agai...

An example of the Penghana crown seal used on up-rated postal card with additional 1d to meet the fee for advertising in the Post Office to which it is addressed. This service lasted for about 18 months. Penghana post office was destroyed by fire soon after this was posted.

Re: Read All About It!
Some years ago I bought a full bound set of the Hobart Town Courier for 1827 and the (two ?) issues with the black duty applied were present on complete issues. All the subsequent issues were so imprinted in red. Interestingly one of the issues with black imprint had an error of date in the issue da...

As an Old boy of The Hutchins School I can tell you that it is definitely the entrance to the Hutchins War Memorial library in Macquarie Street now demolished to make way for the Nettlefolds Car Showroom (currently Myer). Next door to what was for a time the Masonic Club. Immediately to the left of...

On 1st May 1888 Miss Elizabeth Tyler became Postmistress, followed by Watt Handy Tyler on 1st May 1889. 2. The resign...

Your comments are incorrect. The image I posted was sourced from Randall Askeland and correctly acknowledged. I have no comment on the image you used as it seems to have disappeared. I was aware of the Prestige lot but that was not the source of the image I used so your comments are misguided. If y...

Re: Ida Bay cds and BN 258 on cover
The source of the image was from the Randall Askeland collection.
If the image was taken from the Prestige sale (of which we were all fully aware) it would have been appropriately acknowledged.

Pete, You have found a RRRR numeral on cover. Well done. Previously only one copy known dated 15 July 1887 so rated RRRRR as a datestamp. Reopened 18 July 1892 Maybe the dealer has more!
