I have a copy of the same card, but I have noted the spelling as Synnott. Mine is not postally used.

Re: Packet Label with more to pay
Lars Peter
The label is familiar, as I think it was in my collection at one time. I think I collected it as it was the highest value of "MORE TO PAY" that I had found for the Launceston handstamp. Is there not even a vague impression of the year date in the cds that you can find ?

As a footnote, I have just acquired on EBay a copy of the Trial Harbour card postally used from Zeehan to Valetta, Malta in 1912 - by pure chance, cancelled on (a precursor date of) my birthday!

Re: REAL PHOTO CARDS by A.J. WINTER (BURNIE) - DO YOU HAVE A
My records tell me that I have two:
APPM Burnie
Fallen tree near Burnie
As to where they are???
I have noted that the APPM card is marked "Winter's Snappy Service" on the reverse.
Should I come across them, I will post the images.

Re: Spurling & Son Cards Produced for Local Publishers: A Su
For a change, here is one recently acquired, so I can produce an image for it. The card is like Spurling 121, Mt Roland, near Sheffield. It is dated 22/5/1908 and was posted in Launceston. The publisher is "Cohen & Co" with no indication of their line of business. Looking at my Wise's directory for ...

Re: postage due
Jim Without seeing the written-on card, I cannot be sure, but the most likely explanation is that the taxed card had more than 5 words of correspondence, which caused it to be treated as a letter. The letter rate to Transvaal was 2½d, so the 1½d prepayment was 1d deficient. Up to 1st October 1907, t...

But do we know where the ford actually was? Does the road out of Paloona going towards the river actually cross it just off the map?

There are a number of T perfins around with curved vertical strokes and other variants. I have a small selection that I got from Randall Askeland, but I am not sure where I stored them.... I will add to my list of things to post when I find them.

Re: REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS by P.M. KOONIN, HOBART
I have just checked in my index, and I have five Koonin cards (probably bought as a job lot) all of which I describe as "Unidentified carriage descending Mount Wellington" They are all numbered: 148, 258, 335, 491, 531. It would seem that such photos were his 'Bread & Butter" business. The usual pro...

Re: 2d embossed stamp for envelopes
Somewhat to my surprise, a successful trawl of the box. Thank goodness for AG Webster. I found two examples of Webster's PTPO 2d envelopes, both used, and a separate PTPO 2d with no indication of source, but clearly (from the back) privately embossed. I show one of the Webster covers (dated 10/9/08)...

Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, e
Here is a trio of forgeries that I bought from a dealer (as forgeries).
The 4d is fair, but obvious, the other two are clearly forged. I note the forged postmark (South Doo??). Has anyone else sen this cancelling a forgery?

Sorry Bill, careless of me. I guess that it is paying the Printed Matter rate.
I will have another look through my stationery box for a PTPO 2d (preferably solo) used.

Re: 2d embossed stamp for envelopes
The test that I always use is that PTPO embossings always show on the back of the envelope, but the official ones do not. I think this advice comes from the "Stationery" chapter in Tinsley by Owen Ingles.

And now for something completely different. Seen several times on EBay, a replica set of the Tablet issue to £1. Sold as a replica, and stated to have REPLICA on the back of each stamp.

Ross The usual disclaimer about being able to find cards as I (very slowly) reorganise my collection. Re: Selwyn Cox Cards Produced for Local Publishers: a Survey
I have just noticed on EBay (item 400385120965) a copy of "A Distant View if Deloraine", Wynphotoprint #173, publisher Geo. Harley, Deloraine. However, the printing of his name etc. is in a much duller green than the rest of the back of the card, suggesting it was added in a separate operation.
