Re: HOBART-TOWN cds 'nothing at base'

Thanks for the heads up on this one Pete. I had been putting aside the early Hobart CDS and thought they may be the rarer type but alas they are duplex CDS. Still very happy with them and looking for more as by catch.

Re: Studio Postcards

Thanks for the reply Ross it is appreciated. Identification on these type of postcards is crucial and I am lucky it has been done on most. Will post some images later but will show them to members at the Feb meeting as part of the "Tasmanian double bill" with Pete. Will also have a new Waratah Photo...

Re: Laura H Davey cheated a little

Des, I was having a bit of a think about the yachting scene. I believe it is Freshwater Point looking west across the Tamar. There are no homes etc in the background as the marsh on the other side was not suitable for housing at the time. The channel narrows here and it is a natural congregation poi...

Re: Laura H Davey cheated a little

Hi Des, I can help you with the first one. It is the original bridge over the North Esk at Corra Lynn. Later postcards circa 1905 show a different structure but they show the new bridge. The view is looking south heading towards Blessington, hence it is /was known as the Blessington road. Under that...

Studio Postcards

My wife and I have just been cleaning out her mothers home as she has gone into a nursing home and have come across a small cache of personal postcards among a large shoebox of mixed photographs. They date from 1909 to late 1940's. Studios such as Southey's Studio 106 Elizabeth St. Hobart (This is a...

Re: Mount Lyell Railway postcards printed by Osboldstone

Thank you for being so on the ball Mike it is very much appreciated. At some later stage when I have done some more investigation I may contact you to compile a list of known postcards attributed to Stephen Hooker of Waratah with a view to listing them for interested parties. Thanks again for being ...

Mount Lyell Railway postcards printed by Osboldstone

Mike has posted a great scan of the postcard envelope that contained the twelve postcards in the Osboldstone set. I already have "Teepookanna" and "Dubbilbarril" with another two on the way and would like to know if there is anywhere I can find out what comprises the complete set. While not my prefe...

Re: Hobart Parcels Office cds on Pictorials

Given the amount of time elapsed since the first post on this subject I apologise my lateness. I have only just started getting my Hobart and Launceston Pictorial CDS in order (massive job) and was scanning the bulletin board subjects and found this item on the Hobart parcel post cds. Having only be...

Re: UNLISTED TASMANIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS

Thanks Mike that is a great piece of detective work. Now I know who I was bidding against for the three lots of postcards that night. Glad they came back to Tassy. The golden wedding write up in the Advocate gives a good overall history of Stephen Hooker and his family. My postcards to Rose Bestwick...

Re: UNLISTED TASMANIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS M Elliott

Just had a look at Ross' request to find and unanswered query and try and help to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the BB in July. Why wait? Mike had a query on the photographer and rego on his postcard query of 22.8.2013. Cannot help with the rego but a search of Trove threw up a Mercury article ...

Hi John H, yes I agree its a Type b and I can see the date after the A (of AM) which makes it Type bi), day before month. Its been a long time coming and new times have dribbled in but it appears now that we are coming to a point where there may not be a lot more discovered. Given this I have includ...

STEPHEN HOOKER PHOTOGRAPHER WARATAH: HAS ANYONE HEARD OF HIM? In a recent lot of postcards purchased there was one by "S. Hooker" of the "Main Street Waratah". There was another of "Ringtail Falls Waratah" but no photographer id, another of a mill processing scene with no title or photographer id. A...

Re: Times for Burnie and Zeehan Type 3 CDS

Thats an interesting one Max. It does not matter which way you look at it 12.15A is a new time, but which type is it? Without the "N" in Zeehan, date or a clear Tasmania to ascertain slim or wide letters it is a bit of a punt. Thanks for looking you dont know what you will find.So keep looking;I am!...

Re: Blue ink CDS on Burnie Type 1a cds with circle stops

Yes thanks John. I will have to use my memory and be another old bloke and say "I can remember when" I had a Blue Burnie Type 1a. Just looking at a bulk lot now and while many are nondescipt as far as CDS strike is concerned I have noted some that have appeared to have been floated off, washed and h...

Well it does raise a few questions but not a lot of answers at this stage. Perhaps someone with more experience can help. And thanks!!! it is nice to know that it was (and still is now due to my actions) scarce. Still kicking myself. There are a couple of scenarios. If they were running low on ink t...

Just having a browse and note that Black Sugar Loaf has not had a mention. I have a great clean sock on the nose CDS 1d Roo dated AU 27 13. Its better than any Pictorial in my collection.

Blue ink CDS on Burnie Type 1a cds with circle stops

The "Green Books" and Hardinge do not note this particular CDS as having been struck in blue ink on Pictorials. Other Burnie CDS are noted as such and I was very pleased to recently acquire an example of this R rated Pictorial CDS in bright blue. However it did need some cleaning of adherences and I...

Well the Courier has published the "Times" for Zeehan but since then more times have been found from various sources including aberrations. To keep those interested up to date I have listed all know times below; Type 3 CDS (a) Wide "N" in Zeehan day before month: Green Books times 7A, 12.30P,12.45P,...

Re: Times for Burnie and Zeehan Type 3 CDS

Good morning Geoff and thank you. I do not think your 12.45A is an error. Here is why (but I'm a still a learner). Green Book Part 2 lists Type 2 (a) ie narrow "N" as having the following times 7A, 12.30P, 12.45P, 1P, 1.15P and 6.30P (the first and last rare). You have come up with extras 12.45A, 6....

Times for Burnie and Zeehan Type 3 CDS

I am doing a complete list and history for all post offices/receiving houses and their CDS used along the Emu Bay Railway and its offshoot tramways/railways during the Pictorial period 1899-1912. John Campton not quiet a new member

Good evening, after being a member of TPS for eighteen months it is about time I put my head, had a look around and declared my interests. My wife, Gael, I retired two and a half years ago after seventeen years of self employment, and after prompting by David Newell (a past CBA colleague) I joined T...
