Re: Manuscript 59
This is a really interesting one. The whole Montacute/Glen Quoin thing is a real puzzle. In 1861 when the second allocation numerals were issued 59 was clearly issued to Montacute. The first(1861) type is vert scarce. Only two or three copes known, all on perfed chalons. In 1872 Glen Quoin opened as...

Yes, I think LCR=Letter Carrier Room. This is a new one for me. Never seen it before.

Re: Scarcer Circular Datestamps on Pre-Pictorial Issues
Many scarce CDS from this period that are known only as singletons such as Cornwall Type 1b, Ida Bay Type 1(no circle stops), Glen Quion, Tinder Box Bay, Bowood, Taylors Bay etc. Still quite a few that are yet to be seen: Rinadeena, St Aubyn's, Ring River, Willow Brook, Upper carlton, Huon Road, plu...

Re: Chief Office Hobart Town
I think you will find itv was definately used in the MOO. LIke all cancellers it probably sometimes "strayed" to other areas. I have seen it on letter bills before, so saw some use elsewhere.

Re: Barred numeral 78 of Sandspit - is this an example ?
Yes, this example is 178. However, 78 does exist on sideface and was reallocated after the Sanspit closure, most likely to Riversdale, which opened 1873 or very late 1872.

Re: Deloraine postmark types
Ther are only actually two types here. First type introduced in 1884 to replace the old "arc" CDS and ceasing use approx 1918(late date 20.2.1918). It was recut in March 1905(late date before recut 7.3.1905, early date after recut 17.3.1905). It is much clearer and sharper for a period after the rec...

Re: Post Office Operations 1900-1912
Official Post Offices were open every day of the year, including Sundays and Public Holidays for part of the day only. Sunday and Public Holiday cancels are much rarer for this reason. Allowance offices were usually not required to be open for Sundays. Opening hours are shown in the the various P.O ...

Earliest strike known is 1923. I have not seen another from this era. Early cancels very rare indeed prior to the mid 1930's

Re: Bruny Island Internment Camp
There was a telegraph office at the internment Camp at Bruny Island as early as 1904. It remained at this status until briefly raised to the status of receiving office in 919 when used for infulenza quarentine, before being closed completely in late 1919. I have the exact dates but am at work at the...
