Re: N.W. Waterfall on RP PPC by Matthew Brown - whereizit?

thanks Pete. I found this set of postcards at the State Library of Tasmania showing various falls on the Liffey. http://images.statelibrary.tas.gov.au/Fullimage.asp?Keywords=Liffey&x=11&y=14&ID=au-7-0016-125422733 unfortunately, none of them appear to be a possible "contender" as the falls on the Br...

N.W. Waterfall on RP PPC by Matthew Brown - whereizit?

This card (postally used at Devonport West in 1910) is a photo by the respected Devonport W. photographer Matthew Brown. The correspondent is the young woman in the photo who wrote "see what you missed not coming with us on Sunday". I know it's difficult because of lengthened exposure time of the ph...

Re: 8c Lemon what’s the full story?

The story about the 8c lemon was told to me by Bill Craig a number of years ago. As I did not record the facts at the time one should regard this account as anectdotal as I may not have remembered the tale exactly as it was told. Apparently, a complete sheet of the 8c lemon was sent from the State T...

Introducing Ross Ewington

I am a full-time philatelic auctioneer and dealer (shameless plug inserted here >>>> http://tsauctions.com ) but I'm still OK really. Unfortunately, I no longer collect anything of Tasmanian origin (to avoid the dilemma "should I sell it or put it in my collection"!!) but was an enthusiast for about...

http://tsauctions.com/bb/fi%20overprints%201.jpg Recently, I received an inquiry regarding overprints promoting Flinders Island printed on the selvedge of various contemporary Australian stamps from the 1970/71 period. It has been reported that a range of overprints were made on the following stamp...

It features two brand new built trams near "The Y" at the top of Goulburn Street probably on their way back to the city from the H...

Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites

http://tsauctions.com/bb/4d%20courier%20fake%201.jpg This poor forgery of a 4d Courier was offered on eBay in early 2009. Despite several appeals to the vendor to stop proclaiming it as a top example of a genuine stamp and "come clean", the item remained as originally described until sold (for abou...

PLEASE POST ANY SUITABLE ITEMS TO THIS TOPIC http://tsauctions.com/bb/chalon%20fake%201.jpg This item was offered on eBay during June 2009. Re: Emu Bay Railway Cancel?

As the postcard was mailed from Burnie to Melbourne on October 1st and the handstamp is dated October 4th and inscribed RECEIVED, I would assume that it is a private receival marking used by the addressee Harvey Shaw and Co. at their Melbourne office for accounting purposes.

Doubled OS Perfins on Pictorials and QV Tablets

http://tsauctions.com/bb/bu105.jpg Over the last twenty years or so I have seen a number of Pictorials (mainly lower values) and at least one QV Tablet with a double OS perfin. The mint example pictured above (sold recently at auction) has re-kindled my interest in this perfin variety so I thought ...
