Re: Comtock-second period

Yes it is. I thought I had recorded the date from memory but my memory was not all that good as it was an incorrect date.

COMSTOCK RUBBER DATESTAMP - Second Period

Many years ago(maybe 15) I saw this datestamp in a pile of other rubbish. I lost track of it after the owner did not want to sell it. Now it's come full circle.

A very nice lot indeed. Unknown Crown Seal is Pelverata. Red River is Geo River(Georges River, the early name for Pyengana)

Re: CORRECTIONS & ADDITIONS POSTMARKS on PICTORIALS COURIER 58

Whilst the 1911 date would undoubtedly be the early date by 14 months, this CDS cannot exist in 1911 as the issue of such CDS did not begin until Jan 1912. More likely, it is an early date indeed, probably caused by the CDS being issued with the manufacturers date setting and not being "rolled on" t...

Tasmanian Stamp Auctions usually get the best prices for Tassie stuff. That would be where I would be looking.

Re: USE OF THE 1d THIN PAPER ISSUE (SG 261 and 261a)

I wish I had kept all the stocks of these things that I had. At one stage I purchased 72,000 pictorials(all 1d and and 2d) from Jim Pettard. There were hundreds of 1d Thin papers but it was years ago and was not thinking of that sort of stuff at the time. I will have a good look at what you have wri...

Glaziers Bay Type 2 Page 6 and Page 16. late date should be 4.9.1908.

Not a correction, but an addition recently discovered by Ross Ewington. Baden manuscript can be added to the list of manuscript CDS known.

Re: Tasmania WW2 Military and Censored Mail

I have seen the datestamp before. It is quite scarce. It was used only on mail that was posted by servicemen elsewhere in the state and then sent on to the desired destination via Brighton. The army, as Peter has noted, had many small train8ng facilities, Pearsons Point, Campania, Elphin, Western Ju...

Had been seen before with various dates from 1924-1930, but this is later by 5 years and the first copy I have seen in purple ink. Either way it is scarce, no more than 4-5 or so seen.

It's certainly are enough, not as rare as some other numbers such as 17,34, 55, 67 etc. Probably about ten known. It's in higher demand than others as people like it for Norfolk Collections, Tasmanian collections and Islands collections.

Collectors at that time usually purchased material from the "Stamp Branch". I would not be surprised if that canceller was used there.

Re: Hobart favour cancels

This is a very common CDS. Hobart GPO had a "Stamp Branch" that also functioned as an unofficial philatelic section from around the turn of the 20th century.
