Re: WHEREIZIT? SEEK ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING A VIEW HERE!!!

I have done a little more research and I think I have solved the questions I asked. See "The Roof of Tasmania" A history of the Central Plateau, by Tim Jetson, page 70. Yes, it is Mr and Mrs Wilson at their home (and PO) at the Steppes. scan0596.jpg QED? The only question now is, What was the occasi...

Re: WHEREIZIT? SEEK ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING A VIEW HERE!!!

Any ideas as to where and what was the occasion? The important looking gentlemen are lined up with an old couple who are standing in the middle of the photograph. I guess this is the home of the couple. The 3rd person on the left appears to have a military uniform on. The Union Jack is to the right....

Unknown Barge Vessel, Devonport

This real photo postcard by Devonport photographer Matthew Brown is of a large barge type vessel being constructed on the banks of the Mersey River, Devonport.

Can anyone identify this vessel and its intended use?

Mount Lyell Clock & Chimes Souvenir Postcard

A set of 6 ? Would appear to have been published by the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co. Statistics are dated 31st Dec 1906. So perhaps cards were issued in 1907. Cards are printed by well known South Australian printer Donald Taylor Collotype. Are these the only Tasmanian view card printed by Tay...

Re: UNLISTED TASMANIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS

Real Photo postcard by M Elliott, Hobart. Long lists I.R.Elliott and Phyllis Elliott. The 1914 Tasmanian PO directory lists a Mrs M Elliott, grocer , 224 Murray St Hobart. Could she be the photographer?

Is it possible to find the registered owner of the motorbike 671?

Three real photo cards taken by Barnett at Claremont Army Camp WW1. The building is the Hospital. Notice that Barnett's address is Glenorchy. I guess he moved into Hobart later into his career.

Re: Crossing the Ford, Mersey or Forth River?

There was a bridge at Paloona crossing the Forth River. Would there be a ford and a bridge? Is the bridge is in the same spot as the present day bridge? The Paloona dam is about 2km up stream from the present day bridge. As you can see on the postcard, the country is quite steep and very dense bush....

Crossing the Ford, Mersey or Forth River?

Two Spurling cards both numbered 162, the same view but different captions.

No1 "Crossing the Ford", Mersey River. (Postally used but no dates)

No2 "Crossing the Ford", Paloona, River Forth. (Unused)

Which one is correct?

Shipwreck, Name and Where??

Just acquired these two interesting photographs. My quick research suggests the wreck could be the G.W.Wolff which was wrecked on Prime Seal Island Bass Strait in 1912.
See Tasmanian Shipwrecks Vol 2 by Broxam and Nash.

Can anyone confirm it is the G.W.Wolff??

Robert Ralph, Chemist & Photographer Queenstown

Robert J Ralph is listed in Long's book as c1940. This view is much later, perhaps c1962 judging by the cars. When did the first Mini come off the production line? Whats interesting with this view is that Ralph's Chemist shop features on the left of the card. This is Orr St, the main street of Queen...

It has taken me a long time to find any Tasmanian Court size postcards, but I have eventually found 3.
