Ross,
It doesn't correspond to any listed in Samuel or Bendon's UPU book from 1975 (being revised and to be reissued soon) or in Kellow, Turner and McCredie).
I can't really help in clarifying the source of it for you or in identifying that overprint type.

Colours on the LC5 'Lake Series' cards
I was fortunate enough today to add two more cards to my collection (totalling 12 now!) From this series I now have 'A Peep at Barn Bluff' in black and 'Mount Ida and Lake St Clair' in red. What I would like to do is create a census of the colours known as Shatten in his excellent Courier article 'd...

"Tasmania Stamps and Postal History" by W. E .Tinsley, published in 1986, is useful in this context. The section on postal stationary is by O. G. Ingles and contains specific comments on the 1903 Melbourne and 1905 Hobart printings. Ingles reports that there were two shipments of the Melbourne prin...

Re: 1900/12 - 2d Pictorial Lettercards - discuss them here!
Regarding the surcharges: this topic is discussed in the Courier article, June 2014, bottom of p20 and top of p21. In brief, only one example on LC4 appears to be known, and that was a philatelic usage. If you haven't got access to The Courier, let me know and I'll post the whole text in this threa...

Re: Hobart favour cancels
Thank you John.
I looked at the limited holdings I had, cancel dates are spread from 1902 to 1911.
In my mind I thought they were all around 1908.
Do you believe these came from a common source (i.e. one dealer or individual) or were favour cancels obtained by a variety of collectors?

Hobart "per favour" Cancels
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f99/idgaf64/Firstseries10dHobart_zpse2e1b165.jpg I have just acquired the stamp above and have similar cancels on Australian postage dues. Part II of “Tasmania, the Postal History and Postal Markings” on page 67 states: i. The letters “ART” are evenly spaced and “H...
