JUST DISCOVERED - 1/3d on 1/8d on 1/3d surchd BEER DUTY

I think that the cancellation date is 2_.SEP.1902

Dave Elsmore has indicated to me that this provisional surcharge was believed/known to exist but this is the first empirical evidence.

But wait, there's more ......

This example of the 1/8d on 1/3d endorsed '1/3'(d) in pen accompanied the above item and was most like a forerunner to the double surcharged label

This is typical of Tasmania not being able to make its mind up; 1st its 1/3d then its 1/8d then its back to 1/3d :).

Paying the 8 October 3d per gallon rate.

This is the first to surface in both manuscript provisional and provisional using up old stock similar to the 5/6 on 12/- on 9/-.

I have the 2/3d manuscript provisional which appears to be the same handwriting here:
