Platypus Embossed - A Dated Analysis

Way way back in 2003 the TPS put out a special edition [cost me $25!] of the Courier.

In it, Dingle Smith tackled the EKD & LKD’s of the Platypus Embossed Issues and did a fine job.

After 7 years a few more have surfaced and analysis below is my update to Dingles work.

Dates in italic are from Dingles 2003 work. The bold dates are my contribution.

You may have earlier or later dates. If so I would like you to post them here on this thread thank you.

Proofs uncoloured, a group exists dated 12.9.77

Colour Presentation sets in Red are recorded dated 10.6.84 & 22.6.85 the latter is the same date in the Ingles collection of cut out singles this may be the 'set' refereed to in Hull.

Plus Uncoloured Presentation sets exist.

Let's try 2d embossed undated

We can record 2d on receipt dated 4/12/13 for amount of £10/15/-

and also a 2d on receipt dated 30 May 03 for amount of £5/15/7.

I have recorded 3 x 3d values with the year date missing, day & month are the same, 2 are on full promise notes dated 1888 and it was thought 1887 was the last year for the plugs to be used as no '88' was recorded.

I have since picked up a 4/6d promise note with an 88 year plug. Any more 88's out there?
