Customs Duty and their cancels

Any help on identifying this cancel would be appreciated.

I would say that this is an unrecorded PARCELS POST BRANCH LAUNCESTON datestamp* that could have possibly been used for incoming mail but may not have been strictly just for customs use. I'll be very interested in John Hardinge's opinion on this one and whether it's been noted since the last update on Tasmanian postmarks from the "Commonwealth Period".

* if the datestamp is of post office manufacture, the format would indicate that a new "type" needs to be added to the listings.

I would have to agree. It's really curious as in 1918 I am not aware of any other "square" type cancellers which came a bit later in all other cases. With Hobart and Launceston cancellers there are just so many that all you can do is keep recording them as they turn up.
