1868 - 2/6d St George & Dragon with extra vertical perfs

#1 Post by Ross Ewington » Sun Aug 08, 2010 12:05 pm

A TPS member allowed me to scan this interesting item in their collection, namely a 2/6d St George & Dragon
postal/fiscal on document (from 1868) with an extra vertical row of perforations.

Here it is in close-up:

...and on the document

Has anyone else got similar extra perforations on the 2/6d or 5/- and 10/- values?

Is it possible to record the perf gauge on this variety?
It is an interesting variety.

thanks Bill ......that's something I should have done at the time when I made the scan. I shall check with the owner and report back. Ross

I have seen several G&D's with extra rows of perfs, i have a 2/6 perf 12.75 on page nine of my exhibit here:

Nice to see one on document.

With regard to the first double perf, is it really 10 as Revenuer
thought? What does Ross say?

It looks as though we are going to record double perfs on at
least two different perfs in the 1863 version of 2/6. In both
cases, the first line of perforation clearly went wildly astray
so a new line was produced with the results shown.

As mentioned above, Ross is checking with the owner who does not have or uses e-mail so the
answer cannot be immediate ....sorry! :?
