I have just received this image and a request for information which reads in part ...
"I have a full specimen sheet of Tasmania revenue stamps, see attachment, their provenance are as follows. I have worked for Bradbury Wilkinson, Harrison and De La Rue since 1974. I was given the stamps by a B Wilkinson engraver for me to use as a practice piece for portrait engraving, in the 80s. They are genuine and have only surfaced now at home because I have started to clear out all my accumulated work from the last 30 years. As my work has been predominately banknotes I don't know whether they are of any interest? I would be grateful for more information.... "

Why would a colour trial / printer's proof in a non-issued colour be overprinted SPECIMEN?

This discovery sounds very interesting. The specimen sheet probably
came from Bradbury Wilkinson since the writer used to work for that
company. It may be a reference sheet since Bradbury Wilkinson were
responsible for printing beer duty stamps for Tasmania, especially the
stamps shown in this latest find. Some information is available in the
Craig and Ingles catalogue and the subsequent listings of Dingle Smith
and Martin Walker.
These stamps were not meant to be sold to persons other than brewers
carrying on business as Basset Hull tells us.
We might wonder whether any other reference sheets or samples from
Bradbury Wilkinson have survived.
Ross is to be congratulated on publicising this discovery on the BB.

My on line catalogue http://www.ozrevenues.com/Revenue-Railw ... alogue.htm does give the most recent up to date knowledge on these beer duties but i have never known 'Training School' Beer Duty Stamps before i will have the top pair thank you! I have not recorded the SPECIMEN overprint it must be c1980’s.

..and some more info from the 'discoverer'.
"...the stamps were saved from a skip used for all none archive books and dies when Brabury Wilkinson ceased to trade. The official archive material was combined with Waterlow and sons and De la rue, items deemed as low value or of no interest were simply thrown away which De la rue also did around ten years ago. The sheet was mounted on thin cardboard used in the old litho trial books, the stamps came cleanly away from the page ..."
