5d on £1 Tablet overprinted REVENUE - variety

#1 Post by Hobbit123 » Tue Nov 27, 2012 7:06 am

I have recently acquired (from EBay) a copy of this stamp with a 'broken leg' of the 'R' in REVENUE that almost turns it in to a 'B'.

Are other varieties of this overprint known on tablet overprints?

This variety should occur on the £1 Tablet (Revenue) and the 1s on £1 (Revenue)
so we should start looking for examples.

Different settings would be needed to overprint the Platypus and the Saint George
and Dragon stamps so we might not see this 'B' variety on those stamps. However,
a number of other varieties of a similar nature are listed in the catalogues.

As for the Tablet stamps, there is the well known double overprint, one vertical,
on the £1 but that is surely not what we're looking for here.
