TASMANIAN STAMP DEALER/PHILATELIC SOCIETY EPHEMERA

The Spring/Summer edition of "The Cover Collector" (No.21 - Australian Cover Society) has an interesting well-illustrated article by
R. Phaup and M. Moore concerning the commercial stationery produced by Adelaide stamp dealer Peter K. Stalley. In addition
to the "Wide World" FDC's that he produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Stalley also designed and manufactured a range of
stationery for use by 'Stalley's Stamp Shop' and this material is the subject of the article.

A few hours after reading the article, a consignment arrived for my next auction which included the envelope illustrated below!

I have no idea as to who the producer of this cover was (or the printed) but judging by the paper and the printing, my "best guess" to
ascertain the possible period of production is c.1910.

I have commenced this topic for the recording of stationery used by Tasmanian stamp dealers .... I have a few items used by
Wm. Orchard, Petterd's Stamp Depot and a couple of early approval dealers which I will try and find and post the images thereof here.

If you have one or more items that belong to this genre, please post some images and any information known in this topic.

Don't know if a business card qualifies, but here's a scan of Tom Petterd's.
Judging by the phone number it's quite old.

And another use of a Tasmanian stamp image, this time from our esteemed TPS of yore.
G.A.Finlay Competition Second prize certificate.
The text at the bottom reads: "JWS 615553"
Printed on card about 0.4mm thick, according to my Digital calipers.

thanks John

do you know who G.A. Finlay was and why he had a competition held by the TPS in his honour?

I have seen a cut-out or two of the 6d Chalon from this certificate offered as a 'proof' or forgery on eBay and in a philatelic society auction (not the TPS either!)
during the last 10 years or so.

Ross, my memory is not all that good, except that I remember Alan Finlay as an old man (in his late eighties?) in the mid 60's when I attended TPS meetings with my parents. I seem to remember he was a specialist in the 'roos, so I suspect his trophy was for Australian philately. I'll see if I have any literature to confirm this.
