The ability to time travel must qualify TPS member
David Newell as a "Stamp Dealer of Yesteryear"
when he's not visible at
The Coin & Stamp Place, Hobart.

I am uncertain as whether he can supply orders of freshly minted 1930 pennies or just-off-the-press
1913 £2 Roos at this stage as apparently no manual was supplied with the TARDIS.

In case you are wondering, "Spectemur Agendo" is a fairly frequently-used Latin motto meaning "Let us be judged by our acts".

I recently found this as 'stiffening' in a last day cover for the Sassafras post office which Keith
produced in 1975 ...I suspect that it may be from a little earlier than that date.

I have just come across these photos of the late
Kevin Ryan (on right in top photo) who was a leading collector
of Siam and a former Patron of the Tasmanian Philatelic Society during the 1990s and early 2000s. I think the photos
date from 1983 - if anyone has any information about the event and who the other two gentlemen in the top photo are/were,
please post in this topic.

The gentleman in the centre is Dr Russell Jones, a noted collector of Victoria and former President of The royal Philatelic Society of Victoria. I know the other person but cannot put a name to hime just yet! May be Phil Collas.

Examples of handwriting by eminent collectors of the past can be useful in my experience when checking provenance, etc.
Here is a specimen of Allan Leitch's printing and handwriting....

Allan Leitch was one of the first really 'serious' collectors of Tasmanian postmarks and today's collectors
owe quite a lot to his original research which was gladly 'passed on'. He was also an enthusiastic collector
of Australian postal stationery. Does anyone have a photo of Allan?

Does anyone know who "R.D.Rex. Stamp Collector. Hobart" was? Rex has hand stamped a nice 1d Andrew Mather advertising postal card with his oval stamp. See scan.
The postal card is postmarked June 13th 1888 and addressed to Mrs Geo Rex, Patrick St. (Hobart).

Time to post an image of Owen Graeme Ingles (1923-2017) TPS member from 2000-2017. Best known as the designer of the Launceston Flood Prevention Scheme he was the editor of part2 of the Green Books and with William Craig co wrote "The Revenue and Railway Stamps of Tasmania" in 1978. He also published some articles in the Courier. He always remained a proud "Northener". He is seen here in his later days looking at an album of photos of the Launceston Flood Prevention Scheme.
Normally known as Graeme he passed away on 17th June 2017. Much of his collection has made, and is in the process of making its way onto the market.

Who is Jay of Jays Stamps and Coins of 86 Elizabeth Street Launceston?
Found these couple of old wrapped packets of stamps in an old album. I have no idea who Jay was. Can anyone enlighten me.
- Dealers old.jpg (325.85 KiB) Viewed 25129 times
Nothing of interest in the packets other than it relates to a dealer of yester year.
