Swedish 1896, Oscar II, 25 Ore Stamp

Dear administrator, how do you move a post to the correct board when you have put it on the wrong one? See below.

Hello all

i am hoping that someone out there might collect Swedish stamps and might have an answer to my problem of identifying this particular stamp.

As far as I can ascertain Sweden issued two 25 Ore stamps of King Oscar II. The first was issued in 1896 and the second was issued in 1911. Both were orange. This 25 Ore stamp is most definitely brown, is Perf 13, has the crown watermark of the 4 Oscar II stamps issued in 1896 and has a clear franking for 1902. One suggestion, from a most knowledgeable TPS member, was that the colour could possibly be as a result of the effect of sunlight on the die. To that end I left a spare 25 Ore OSCAR II stamp in full sun for 14 days and it didn't even fade, let alone change colour. Another possibility (?) could be that in the printing process the colour for the 15 Ore (brown) stamp was used by mistake, but I would have thought that would have been identified and catalogued long ago. I have searched the Internet and to date have found no reference to the stamp.

I have followed the instructions for attaching an image of the stamp, although it does seem rather large !!

Can anyone help me please!!?

David -- I can't help you with the brown color. However, a couple of observations.
1) Sunlight can fade color but it will definitely take more than 14 days.
2) The color change could have been done chemically leaving a crisp appearance like your stamp and that would only take minutes.
3) I actually collect some Swedish cancels so have spent many hours looking at cancels. Your 25 ore stamp is dated 1907 (not 1902).

Good morning Gerry.

Thank you. That means my wife was right (again), she said the cancellation was for 1907. Bugger, wrong again!

In regard to the stamp itself I have just found one on the internet, and that site definitely looks like a scam! However, on the other side, this stamp came out of an old album that I bought a few months ago and then took apart. I actually bought the album for the UK and British Empire (as it was then) stamps. The album and all the stamps in it were from before WW II, with a large percentage being from before WW I. Why would anyone have chemically altered the stamp?

Dear David,
As an Admin I can move your post but the problem there is no suitable category to move it to.
The Board is a Tasmanian specialists Board rather than a TPS Club board, hence everything is oriented to Tasmanian-related content.
So, the best best is to leave it where it is with a view to eventually removing the post once we can be reasonably sure there are no more replies forthcoming.
I would not expect much if anything by way of reply unfortunately as I believe most members of this forum are principally Tasmanian collectors.
