Introducing David McNamee

#1 Post by David McNamee » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:05 am

I am one of the TPS Members from the United States. I live in California, so I travel to Australia a bit less frequently now that I am retired, but reasonably often enough to stay in touch with many TPS members in Tassie and the Mainland.
My collecting interests are nearly all centered on Tasmania -- I used to tell people that I collect EVERYTHING in Tasmanian philately, but the reality set in and I have sold off most postal stationery, my Second Allocation Numerals, my Tattersalls, and lately have begun selling off my first love (since 1975), Postmarks on Pictorials. My main interest has always been postal markings and postal history. I got hooked when I first read the Green Books in the mid-70s.
I have some pretty decent collections and exhibit them from time to time: Preadhesive, First Allocation Cancellations, and Tasmanian Registered Mail, and these get to be expensive sometimes (hence the partial sell-off). I have been at this for 35 years.
I am an accredited Chief Philatelic Judge in the USA, the Editor of The Informer, the journal of the Society of Australasian Specialists/Oceania, and I am active on many fronts in organized philately, doing what I can to give back to this wonderful hobby.
I have written three books on Tasmanian philately, which I believe are all in the TPS Library -- two on Tattersalls and one a Subject Index and Bibliography of Tasmanian philately. I am always happy to share what knowledge I have accumulated, and I invite you to email me directly or post items on this site.
