I guess this is a Launceston Exhibtion souvenir card. The 2 gentlemen are Jules Joubert and S J Sutton. Can anyone supply more information?
The card is cabinet size.

Nice photo Mike ....

Here's another item I have just located on my computer - I can't recall the source but I do remember
that it is definitely a photograph of an illustration.

I will see what I can find regarding Messrs Joubert and Sutton* ..... the State Library has a copy of the
official exhibition "book" so that may shed some light.

* Sutton's portrait above is inscribed "Mayor of Launceston" so that's a start!

While looking for more souvenir photos from the exhibition I can across a most interesting website
http://www.launcestonfamilyalbum.org.au (Launceston Family Album) that has "passport photos"
of members of the public who bought season tickets to the exhibition. There is a link from the front page
of the site to another (hosted by the State Library of Tasmania) that provides information about the exhibition
and includes this image of another souvenir photograph.

Here's a brief bio of Jules Joubert.

A bio of Samuel John Sutton is available from the Australian Dictionary
of Biography website at http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/AS10453b.htm
as is one for Jules Joubert http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A040559b.htm

Thanks for the information Ross. Interesting to note that the State Library site mentions that the official photographer for the Exhibition was Richard Nicholas, of Elite Studio, 74 St John Street, Launceston.

My photo does not credit the photographer but I guess it is a good chance that it was taken by Nicholas.

Yes, the photographs of the Exhibition were taken by R J Nicholas. I'm guessing that he was the 'official photographer'.

It is interesting to note that the artist Gladstone Eyre, who painted four portraits for the Tasmanian Court at the Exhibition, was under engagement to Nicholas and had his artist's studio in the Nicholas studio in St Johns Street. The four portraits were of S J Sutton, the Mayor of Launceston; Mrs Sutton the Mayoress (her official title as the wife of the Mayor); George Horne, Manager of the National Bank; and Mons. Jules Joubert.

Eyre's paintings were regularly displayed in the shop front of the Nicholas studio.
