Waratah Photo by J.H. Robinson - can anyone 'date' it for me

#1 Post by Ross Ewington » Thu Jul 28, 2011 5:25 pm

This postcard size photograph of a diesel loco, ore trucks and crew was taken by J.H. Robinson
somewhere near the crushing plant at WARATAH. Judging by the clothing worn (and the diesel loco), the photo is from
one of the later periods during which the Mt Bischoff mine was operated.

Any ideas for an approx. date?

See page 87 of Waratah, "Pioneer of the West" by Margery Godfrey.

Here is a photo, very similar to yours Ross. I think it was taken 5 mins before yours as the crew of 3 are still on/in the loco.

The caption states
"A mine locomotive hauls a rake of ore trucks just before the the Bischoff mine closed. The driver has been identified as Alf Jones and the seated man as Lance Glozier."

The mine finally closed in 1947 after many stops and starts. I would date this photo about 1946.
