Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc

PLEASE POST ANY SUITABLE ITEMS TO THIS TOPIC

Image
This item was offered on eBay during June 2009. It is most likely to have been produced
as a facsimile rather than a forgery as the size of the margins aren't going to fool anybody.
Can anyone suggest a name as a possible producer of this stamp and postmark?

This poor forgery of a 4d Courier was offered on eBay in early 2009. Despite several appeals
to the vendor to stop proclaiming it as a top example of a genuine stamp and "come clean",
the item remained as originally described until sold (for about US$90 or so if I remember correctly)
Although the image (from the eBay listing) is poor, can anyone suggest a name for the forger?

Noting that a Sperati reproduction of the £1 QV Key Type is being offered at auction by Prestige Philately
on April 10th and having a copy of the very scarce "Sperati" books published by the BPA in 1955 to hand,
I thought it would be a good time to post an image of the stamp on offer and the relevant text and plate from the book.

A forgery this bad shouldn't fool anyone but a hopeful eBay vendor had still
used it to "up" the total catalog value of an otherwise lacklustre lot.

The forged obliterator postmark is a useful reference.

this 3d St George & Dragon was offered on eBay during November 2010 - item 300488485910

it has a poorly cleaned fiscal cancel (that anyone interested should have seen as the vendor
provided an excellent large image for inspection) and what I believe to be a forged 'TASMANIA' barred
obliterator ...am I right here (i.e. that it's a forged cancellation)??

Offered on eBay as a SUPERB forgery during April 2011
...at least the vendor got the 'forgery' bit right in the description!

Mavis Pope illustrates this 2d. Says engraved and heavily inked. Created by unknown forger. I have seen fake Courier 4d also with that cancel type.

hi
Here is a lithographed forgery of the 1/- chalon. Its not actually been seen on an auction site although I am selling some australian states in on-line auctions. It is easily spotted the earrings are very poorly depicted. I have only ever seen this one copy although I have seen several forgeries of the Courrier issues. I did wonder if it could be a postal forgery as its not a hughely valuble stamp and not good enough to fool collectors. does any one know more about this forgery ?
Thanks for looking

I think this falls into the 'facsimile' (poor) category and as you mention, not good enough to fool collectors.

An interesting feature is the postmark which is very similar to the one applied to the forgery/facsimile of the 2d Chalon listed above...

Thanks for your first post 'eelyfree' - I hope that you find the TPS BB a useful and friendly place for seeking and sharing information about Tasmanian stamps and postal history.

And now for something completely different. Seen several times on EBay, a replica set of the Tablet issue to £1. Sold as a replica, and stated to have REPLICA on the back of each stamp.

Seen on eBay - March 10th 2013

Fortunately, the vendor has described the item correctly as being a forgery.

Interesting to note that the forger must have produced a die with at least two units (see frame
line of an adjoining 'stamp' on top margin).

The 4d is fair, but obvious, the other two are clearly forged. I note the forged postmark (South Doo??). Has anyone else sen this cancelling a forgery?
