1899 1d Pictorial with inverted "Specimen." overprint

#1 Post by Ross Ewington » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:31 pm

could this be genuine?

I can't recall having seen (or heard of) a 1d Pictorial with an inverted "Specimen ." overprint.

Pictured below is the "stamp in question" scanned overlapping a 1d Pictorial with a genuine overprint.

Questions arising:

1) has an inverted Specimen overprint ever been reported on any of the recess printed stamp?
2) why would anyone go to the trouble to create a forgery of an item which is not of great monetary value?
3) do you think it could be genuine?
