UNRECORDED DATESTAMP VARIATIONS - ALL ERAS - POST HERE!

HAMILTON Type 4a DATESTAMP WITH INVERTED DATEWHEEL

This Hamilton cds impression from 22JY48 shows an inverted "8" in the dateline. Considering this is a common postmark, I have never noticed this variation before and it isn't recorded by Avery & Hardinge.

If you have a similar example, can you please post it here?? ..... it would be good to create a record of the period of the datestamp's use with this dateline variety.

NABAGEENA Type 2 ....the clarity of the 'struck' part of the dateline suggests that the first roller
for the year was either faulty or absent at the time (I assume the year was 1932)

The Derwent Bridge cancel above http://tps.org.au/bb/viewtopic.php?f=5& ... 2996#p1592 cannot be from 1979 as the 'Waltzing Matilda' folklore stamps were not issued until 7th. May 1980.

Well noticed Jeff! We can only assume that there was a technical reason that the '9' was used instead of a '0'. Can anyone report
other examples from 1980? Do last day covers exist, if so is the year '80' or '89'?

I have a last day cancel from Derwent Bridge which is illustrated. The 0 is not quite in line. Sadly it is only a cut out.

Impressions of the neoprene-faced datestamp in used at ROKEBY with the date added in red ink was brought to my attention during 2012 when still 'in use'.

I have just found two examples (in a charity accumulation from commercial mail) both applied on the same day in 2010

In addition to the unusual dateline, note that the 'star' opposite same appears on one cancel on the left and the other on the right!

As the late John Avery would have said ...."a real puzzler"!

Savage River date stamp. This appears to be a Type 6 postmark with no hyphen between TAS and Postcode.
This is not listed in Hardinge who gives two versions of the Type 6 post marker, both of which are Type 6a. The only other possible option is a Type 8 which again is not listed.
Could you please clarify, or correctly identify, Ross.

Please note that '1918' is inverted - I don't think that this dateline variety has been reported.

Check your holdings in case we can determine and early and a late date. It may be just a "one off"
of course.... used for a few hours/days and then corrected when the error was noted by a PO clerk.

Cygnet 7bT "Paid" CDS. missing numeral in year.
This postmark appears to be consistent as evidenced by the two different dates of use.
They show a missing first numeral of year (presumably an "8")
I must confess that I have not seen another example WITH the missing numeral present so this may be the norm.

Below is a scan of a strike on a 2 1/2d Imperial Reply Coupon of a rubber STAMP SALES / LAUNCESTON cancel dated 18 / FEB / 1935 which appears to be unlisted. The datestamp is 28mm in diameter with circle (or possible asterisk) arcs and the date in in three lines with a three-letter month and four-digit year.



Any further information about this datestamp would be appreciated including whether it has now been recorded in updated lists and whether others have been seen and if so what dates.

Had been seen before with various dates from 1924-1930, but this is later by 5 years and the first copy I have seen in purple ink. Either way it is scarce, no more than 4-5 or so seen.

The datestamp is Type R2a - rated 'RRRRR'. Previous LRD was 17-SEP-1930.

Strahan R6aT(ii).
This may be a totally new variety not described by Hardinge, or may just be misdescribed in the listings.
The postmark is described as having the 5PM time annotation "below" the dateline.
However as the postcode varies from the R6a and R6aT(i) postmarks in the size of the text in that it is much smaller. It is most likely that it is as yet undescribed.
Please advise your thoughts re this.

Sandy Bay R6 rubber Paid CDS 14 Dec 1993.
This is listed in Hardinge in Red 1990-91 and black in 1991-
The present example is in Blue ink and records the word "Paid" above the dateline and additionally
the Time (6.00 PM) is recorded below the dateline. Neither this variation nor the colour is recorded.
Has anyone seen this before?

Somerset R6a colour variations.
This post mark is described in the notes as being in Blue ink in 1989.
I wish to report the existence of two exam,ples also dated 1989, one being in Black ink,
the other in Violet. This may be nitpicking, but as colour variations are extensively
described elsewhere I feel that it is important to report any that I find.

Currently, the Type 7b PAID cds is listed as being in use until 1995

This datestamp would be classified as being Type 7b(m)

Relief Stamp Type 4a in Violet. Any ideas re this? I thought that a numeral had not come through on the strike, but the text "Relief Stamp" is in smaller type than the numbered postmarks. Likewise the positioning of the text does not really allow room for a numeral. The date (I think) is 6 OCT 1959. The 9 looks to be a bit smaller than the 5 so perhaps this could be called 4a(m). Further, I have not seen any other Relief stamps using Violet ink.
