SPRINGS 24.FE.1913 - Type 2c is rated RRRRR

This is most interesting as it is from the first period of opening* with all other previously
recorded examples from this time being on the ONE PENNY surcharged 2d Pictorial.

* Springs was a "summer post office" operating from Jan 1 through to April 30th each year up
until 1929. The first period as such was from Oct 17th 1912 and postmarks with 1912
are known.

I just discovered this lovely postmark while describing a mixed lot ...the vendor is going to be pleased!

John Hardinge reports than only three examples are known .... I am uncertain as to whether this
strike in one of 'the three'.

Sold for $1850 + buyer's premium in Tasmanian Stamp Auctions. 5.11.2011 postal auction

There are only two examples recorded of this postmark and to the best of my knowledge is a new record price
for a post-1912 Tasmanian postmark.
