"Paid at Launceston" advice sought

#1 Post by admin » Mon Feb 04, 2013 8:30 pm

I am unable to identify this cds. My Hardinge listing says there is a "Postage Paid Launceston" that fits the period including 1913, but this CDS does not include the word "Postage" .Perhaps its a part of a machine cancel but I cannot identify it. Any thoughts ?

John Hardinge has advised the following off-line: "Is known and is listed in the Green Books. Quite a scarce CDS as of course machine cancels were performing most of the "paid" work at Hobart and Launceston by this time.4R 15 Dec 1911 23 Oct 1915 RRRR(S) RRRR(C) "Postage Paid Launceston/Tas". Fig S17 in "Green Books". Various rates, including blank"

Thanks John!
Pete
