I have just come across a collection of Harvey cards, as well as a collection of photographs. Some of the cards are already posted here, and interestingly, some would appear to be from the same photographic outing but a different view. There are a significant number of cards not yet posted. Also in the hoard were three exercise books, being numbered 1 (28 May 1904 - 8 Feb 1905), 3 (Dec 27 1905 -Feb 16 1907) and 14, ( 31 Dec 1929 - 28 March 1931). Each exercise book holds a number of photos, obviously originals of some of the cards and other photos. Many photos are titled and dated. Also included are a number of lists of cards with numbers, titles and dates. I wonder what happened to the other 11 books? Has anyone seen anything similar?
I have viewed a few cards in photoshop and the level of detail can be quite amazing. The images can be blown up significantly from 600 dpi scans, revealing sharp detail not visible to the naked eye. As Mike and others have already mentioned, Harvey's photographic technique is top class. Most images are razor sharp, perfectly exposed and developed, producing crystal clear and beautifully rendered scenes. I presume he was taking contact prints form glass negatives at least in the early work. Harvey also managed to get his gear into some quite remote places at times, no easy feat given the heavy wooden tripod that would also have been needed.
There are a few images from Tasmanian Field Naturalist (TFN) excursions and at least one from a Hobart Walking Club outing (HWC). One card has the name Jack Thwaites on the back in pencil. Jack was one of the leading lights in the HWC for decades. I expect if anyone knows any old timers from either the TFN or the HWC then there may be some oral history to be discovered about R C Harvey.

Time for a few more Harvey postcards. Notice that the first 2 scans are the same view but Harvey has used a few tricks to have one view as a sunset and the other one as an early morning view, hence "A Sunset at Risdon Ferry" and "View Risdon Ferry".

Recently while reading the book "A Century Afield", A history of the Tasmanian Field Naturalists Club by Janet Fenton, I came across two photographs on pages 114 and 115 which sent me to check on a Real photo postcard which I thought was R.C Harvey with his parents. See page 2 of this post. Well I am left with no doubt that it is in fact R C Harvey.

There hasn't been another card by Harvey posted here for over 5 years so I thought it was 'time'

Photo of Darlington, Maria Island ....... stampbox on back indicates that this print is post WWI (circa 19120) but I believe the original to be a bit earlier than this.

This real postcard of the Ski Club Hut, Twilight Tarn, Mt Field National Park was photographed by R. C Harvey. This card has a rather poor rubber stamped "Harvey Print". I have not seen this rubber stamp before. I know that Harvey was a member of the Tasmanian Field Naturalist club (in fact he was a life member) and I think he was also a member of the Hobart Walking Club. Can anyone identify the two gentlemen standing in front of the hut? I believe the hut is still standing.

The one person I know who might provide an I.D. is regrettably no longer with us. Interesting to see what the well-dressed bush walker was wearing in those days! Great image.

It's a pity no one wears a tie when bushwalking nowadays ....standards have definitely dropped since 1934

Mike, would you be able to post the highest resolution image possible of just the two heads? ..... I can
then direct a couple of folks I know to view the image and see if they can identify these well-dressed chaps.

P.S. yes Pete, Fred Lakin would have been able to identify them .... I remember him telling me that he knew Harvey quite well (through the HWC)
