Organising the Walch VIgnetted Cards

#1 Post by Des_Beechey » Sat Jun 13, 2015 8:57 pm

J. Walch & Sons published six series of vignetted cards in the years 1900-1904. These are all undivided back cards. They have different features that allow them to be dated to year. There are big differences between the years, except between 1901 and 1902, where the only difference is what is capitalised in the captions. For all the detail on all the series, see my web site: http://beecheyspostcardhistory.org.au.

1900 Series Identification
  • Printed by collotype in England
    No printers name on front
Back with POST CARD ----- TASMANIA. in red with two lines below, one long, one short.

  • The layout is the same as the 1901 series, with only one difference - the caption is always in upper case, not mixed upper and lower case as in the 1901 series. eg THE SHOT TOWER, BROWNS RIVER ROAD not THE SHOT TOWER, Browns River Road.

The cards with an anchor logo on the back are not included here, as they were published by a British company John Walker & Co, not J. Walch & Sons.
