Definitely not Little Pine - the hill in the background is too high and not enough flat area around the lake. I think Little Pine wasn't created ( by the flooding of the Pine River) until well after the photo was taken.
It doesnt look like the Walls of Jerusalem or anywhere else I can think of.
I wonder if its somewhere around the Northern end of the Central Plateau, perhaps accessed from one of the tracks at the back of Mole Creek?

I thought that it may have been Pine Lake near the Great Lake but the Google view says "no"

Re Wilson's Steppes Homestead photo by Beattie, on page 4.

Just came across the same photo in the book "Lifeblood, Tasmania's Hydro Power" by Roger Lupton, see page 64.

This photo is of the official party for the opening of the Great Lake power scheme 6th May 1916.
The man in the centre with the bowler hat is the Governor General Sir Ronald Muroe-Ferguson. He ceremonially turned on the first power machine at Waddamana.

Just obtained this great Kodak backed real photo postcard the other day of a very impressive haulage winder rig. The wood fired boiler is located to the rear of the building and stacks of wood are to the left. It appears excess stream is being let off to the right. There are two substantial winders located in the front.
Is this set up for log hauling into a sawmill or perhaps a mining haulage way?? Can you supply any information regards use and location?
It came with other Tasmanian cards so I am confident that the location is somewhere in Tasmania.

The "mystery mansion" is/was Stoke House, just off Stoke Street New Town, built by Sir John Dodge, I think. Look it up on the Australian Heritage database.

There are two things I don't know about the card below: where is the Sphinx Rock, and who published the card?

I have several other cards with similar backs; printed in green with 'Post Card' in a fancy font, and an acorn-like symbol below the double line. One is of 'Sorell Creek Falls'; where is that? Another one has the same back layout but printed in red - this is of 'Hobbler's Bridge, near Launceston'. They are all undivided back, so before 1905.

I would be very surprised if the rock formation - "Sphinx Rock" - is still recognisable as such. Being right on the water it has probably changed shape years ago. Not much help I know, but the rock formations I remember from childhood on the coast are now very different and thats only over some 50 years.

Sorrel Creek is on the road to New Norfolk, near the Molesworth turnoff. I have never heard of any falls but the creek heads inland towards Collinvale through steep country so maybe there is/were falls somewhere in the vicinity.

I've been 'stockpiling' a few "Whereizits?" and as there have been no mysteries posted here for some time
I thought that now would be a good time to seek assistance.

The following were included in lots of "Tasmanian Views Only" real photo cards. I know that this doesn't
mean that the views are also of places in Tasmania but hopefully, it makes it more likely.

A: this card is printed on Empire Post Card stock which pre-dates WWI

The view of a river or estuary with boat may be Browns River behind the settlement a Kingston Beach. If so it would be taken from the on or near Beach Road heading towards the beach looking east.

Both scenes look very much like Lindisfarne Regatta on the jetty looking up towards the original Queen Victoria Home. The QVH had a large paddock in front of it running down towards the bay with pine trees around the perimeter. The hills in the background look right and the street at left is still there. Early postcards of Lindisfarne show this jetty in the bay just along from the Lindisfarne Rowing Club. Not sure when the Lindisfarne Regatta ceased to operate but it was certainly active in the 1920's right up the the early 1960's.

At the moment I have not been able locate Sphinx Rock situated by the sea. It is not listed on the Tasmanian List Map Land Information System. It is certain that the cliffs are located somewhere in the Southern Tasmania / Hobart area. There is a Sphinx Rock in located in the Mt Wellington Park. The cliffs look like they are sandstone, so after over a 100 years of erosion I would expect they do not look like the postcards scenes anymore.
This scan is a real photo card by "Sirius" Hobart. It was posted to the UK in 1907. It should of been taxed as it only has 1/2d stamp.
This Sphinx Rock looks like it could be a different Sphinx Rock from the other postcard. Your opinion?

I quote from the last few lines,
"This is a most unique view and many distinct face(s) can be traced in the rocks. The photographer asked me to add "copyright" as he had not time to print it."

This photograph dates from 25.9.1909 and features a view of an aurora over an well-established town. It was
found in a collection of ALL Tasmanian postcards but I don't recognise the town (if it is indeed in Tasmania).

Can anyone assist ? ..... two buildings are the "Commercial Hotel" and "Campbell and Mahaffey · General Storekeepers"

This portrait of three contented fishermen on pre-1914 photo card stock is identified as most likely being taken in Southern Tasmania by the empty beer bottle on the stick ...it definitely has a Cascade Pale Ale label!!

Any ideas as to where the photo was taken?

Not sure if you want 'best guesses' but it looks like the banks of the Derwent looking across towards Mt Direction ( the hill sloping up towards the left).

My 'best guess' is is on the eastern shore of the Derwent looking south towards Mount Direction somewhere near Bridgewater of today. Probably on the banks of the Jordan where it joins the Derwent River. A popular trout fishing area around those times

Can anyone identify this power station? It was with other Tasmanian postcards, so I think there is a good chance that it is somewhere in Tasmania. It is not Waratah or Lake Margaret power stations.
