Post Office Operations 1900-1912

#1 Post by David McNamee » Wed Jul 15, 2009 10:46 am

I find village postmarks dated every day of the year, including Sundays, Christmas Day, New Years Day. Did postal employees work every day? Was the post office open for business every day?

Official Post Offices were open every day of the year, including Sundays and Public Holidays for part of the day only. Sunday and Public Holiday cancels are much rarer for this reason. Allowance offices were usually not required to be open for Sundays. Opening hours are shown in the the various P.O guides.
