Does anybody know if the violet boxed cancel is from the Emy Bay Railway? or could it be a transit mark?

As the postcard was mailed from Burnie to Melbourne on October 1st and the handstamp is dated October 4th and inscribed RECEIVED, I would assume that it is a private receival marking used by the addressee Harvey Shaw and Co. at their Melbourne office for accounting purposes.

Agree. But a nice overprinted postcard (which belongs in the Postcard thread!).

I will transfer the image to the picture postcard category with a new question (I already thought of doing that)! :D
