The Broadmarsh is very small, but all the first series of crown seals ordered were that size. Over the years they varied in size but were all bigger than the first issue.

The pair has been re-joined and it is believed that there was one further stamp
with a partial impression making up a strip of three. This outstanding Crown Seal
impression will be offered at auction sometime early in 2013

Hi Ross, do you know what the Wattle Grove Lower pair achieved? Here is a single Wattle Grove Lower crown seal we have come across.

The postmark was sold by Tasmanian Stamp Auctions for $360 + 11% which thought was a very good result as there are quite a number of Wattle Grove Lower Crown Seal impressions known on Pictorials though none of them match this quality to the best of my knowledge, thus a 'premium' had to be paid to ensure acquisition.

Recently acquired Crown Seals. Most appear on official forms of some sort and I have posted parts of these forms hopefully for someone to identify where , when and why they were used. There is also one seal I could not identify so any help appreciated. Thanks

I also think the seal you note as "Red River" is in fact "Geo River"

A very nice lot indeed. Unknown Crown Seal is Pelverata. Red River is Geo River(Georges River, the early name for Pyengana)

Have you any idea on the forms they appear on, I am thinking it is some sort of checklist identifying what is on hand at each post office .

Would you be able to scan a complete form and post it?

I believe they were some sort of monthly (?) register the PM had to maintain recording all the implements he held.They also maintained a daily record of their date stamp showing that they had used the correct date.

Unfortunately the largest piece of form I have is the scan below which on one side has the partial list and the other has the datestamp and crown seal of paradise which may show it as a office register of some sort being that examples of each strike are on the same form

Darryl,

With permission of the friendly proprietor of Tasmanian Stamp Auctions I have included an image of the form for the Florentine strikes which they recently sold. Whilst not exactly the same as the partial forms you have posted they do indicate some form of inventory list required to be completed by the PM either as a monthly (or regular period) stocktake or in the case of the Florentine form to be completed when handing over to a new PM

Further thoughts - these forms probably relate to those completed by PO Inspectors who took an inventory of the assets and hand stamps held by the Postmaster on a regular basis.

This seems to fit with the types of equipment in the partial form in an earlier post e.g.

21 Pigeon holes
22 Private boxes
23 Presser, Letter
24 Safe
25 Hand B....
26 ....
27 Seal

25 - 27 Scales

The later posting seem to indicate:

23 Private boxes
24 Safe
25 Su...
26 to 29 Scales
30 to 31 Seal

32 to 35 ....?

More detectives need on the case or hopefully a complete form. My guesses accord with the type of equipment one would expect to be used in a Post Office especially when compare to the Adamsfield transfer form above.

Found a full example of the Form posted by Daryl which dates at least up to 1970 and relates to the stocktake carried out when a transfer of PM takes place. Hopefully this throws some more light on the crown seals pieces.
