Which of the 2 number '29' cancels here is actually the 2nd allocation as they both appear different?

Paul,
if you mean the 29 on the 2d sideface and the example on the 4d chalon on cover I think they are the same. The sideface example is more heavily inked and probably a bit worn.
The first allocation "2" has a pronounced ball at the top left and the "9" has more curved bottom stoke before it curves up into the terminal ball than is the case with first second.
Its not unusual for there to be some variation between strikes due to inking, smudging and debris on the canceller, not to mention wear over the years.

Does anyone have a copy of the second allocation 60 as am trying to tell the difference with the 1st allocation and having a hard time?
