Second recorded example of White Hills on cover ?

#1 Post by admin » Sun May 05, 2013 10:09 pm

Here is an example of the White Hills CDS on cover, with also an indistinct BN 96.
I understand only one other example of this first White Hills CDS has been recorded? It opened 1867, and closed 1894. The date is a little unclear in the cds but is unmistakable from the Launceston back stamp 27/2/1886.
Unless there are a number of other examples I am assuming this this is a 5R rarity rating for the first period of the cds?

Nice cover. Have only seen one other. Of course you always hope to see numbers not previously tied such as 269-275, but still.......

Another White-Hills cover come to light. This one dated March 26 1892 (note the day in manuscript). The cover was part of the Trethewie correspondence that recently sold on ebay. The seller indicated that this cover (as well as the other correspondence) had been in the family since it was received.
