Thanks Ross - that is very interesting! Especially the post office operating between 1856 and 1860. That was post convict period, and pre Bernacchi 'industrial' period. I need to check, but I think the island was leased by the Fletchers at that time, for farming. So, can you tell me, what would have...

Well, actually, I can't be sure that I have Hobbit. I do have the colour Spurling postcard, and the others (Beattie, etc) I have seen or copies are digitalised and available. I've never seen any other Spurling postcards, or photographs, of Maria, but if he was on the island and took one, he probably...
