Re: Bruny Island postal history
John,
I also have mention of the use of the Military Camp cancel at Quarantine Bay in 1918, although nothing has been sighted.

Re: Bruny Island postal history
Fantastic John.
The only addition I can make is Barnes Bay opened 1902 and closed 1904, no evidence sighted.
Thanks,
John

Re: Bruny Island postal history
Barnes Bay first allocation is recorded on cover as shown. Currently held in a US collection and was on display at New York 2016. I have also seen Taylor's Bay tied to 2nd allocation '99' on a 1d postal card in a London auction some five years ago but do not have a scan. I will try and locate an im...

Re: Bruny Island postal history
Pete, It will include everything, this initial post was just about markings not seen. Given that Simpson's Bay and Adventure Bay closed by 1974, I might use that as a cut-off point for the article. I have more modern material in my collection. I have the Kelly's Point cover with a cds and BN49, over...

Re: Soaking/Storing Engraved Pictorals
Jerry, Some people swear by drying books, but I'm not fond of leaving stamps wet for days at a time. When I soak stamps, I let them spend as little time in water as possible, dry them on disposable paper towelling an then put them into hagners for an initial sort before the study of them begins. Per...

Bruny Island postal history
I will post a series of questions here about the different offices on Bruny as I hope to write an article about the Postal History of Bruny this year. I have used Basset Hull, the two Volumes of 'Postal History and Postal Markings', Tinsley and the 'Guide to Circular Date Stamps on the Tasmanian Pic...

1905 Hobart short paid postcard taxed twice
IMG_20161220_0001.jpg I'm trying to work out why this card was taxed twice. Card posted Jersey 29 DE 1904, hexagonal T / 15 / L (London) tax mark. Card has writing on front, so treated as a letter. Postage paid 1d against required 2½d. Hobart cds on front 9 FE 1905. Double deficiency of 3d paid wit...

Re: Kellys Point, Bruni Island
Mike, John, Cover now in my possession courtesy of Ross E. I think the date of the Kelly's Point strike is 23 June, but the '3' is very lightly struck. The transit marks on the back are Hobart-Town Ju 27 / 79 and New Norfolk 28 Jun / 1879. I can see no reason why the letter would take more than a co...

½d litho V over Crown perf varieties
Lancaster states the ½d V over Crown litho printings were perforated with 11 & 12½ gauges. SG lists compunds of 12½ and 11 (237a) and 12½ and 12 (237b, this unpriced).
Is the latter stamp known to modern day collectors?

Likely philatelic cover Launceston to Hobart 6 January, 1903
This cover, addressed to Mrs K Stockton at 129 Selton Tce, Hobart raises a couple of questions: Overpayment of the 1d rate suggests that it is philatelic I can't find Selton (or Sefton) Tce is my google maps search, does anyone know its location? Does anyone have similarly adressed covers? Thanks, J...

Peter,
I agree entirely. In this age where it is so much easier to create permanent photo records of major displays and collections, such records should be created wherever possible.

Re: NEED ASSISTANCE WITH IDENTIFYING POSTMARKS? - ASK HERE !
I have just purchased this cover for the Winchelsea numeral upon it. Can anyne help identify the boxed red mark? The auction description was 'Monard's Free' but I thought it may be St Leonards Free.

T.M.L. Ry No. 1 framed cds
I have this cancel on a mining scenes letter card postmarked FE 5 / 02 to Devonport East.
Is it possible to determine where the T.M.L. cancel would have been applied?

Lettercard to Smyth and Nicolle - stamp dealers
I received this card today, addressed to Smyth and Nicolle (Smyth crossed out). This stamp dealing partnership was formed in 1893. Smyth withdrew in 1902 and Nicolle sold to Fred Hagen in 1905. Info here: http://www.auspostalhistory.com/MOBI/articles/1.php. According to the referenced site, corespon...
