Re: H. J. King Postcards?
Lastly, there's this. It was definitely a postcard, and was I think taken on the same day as the previous image. This is so far not attributed to anyone, but I think it's King. If anyone has any information on this card or any observations I'd be very grateful. Thanks for reading. Screenshot_2018051...

Re: H. J. King Postcards?
Screenshot_20180503-150032.jpg On the same subject, does anyone know if the image above appeared as a postcard. This one is particularly crucial, as if it can definitely be attributed to King, as it is by QVMAG, then one of the big outstanding questions regarding the photographic record of the thyl...

Re: H. J. King Postcards?
Thanks to information I recieved last night, I now know that King did use the following image on a postcard. There's a copy at QVMAG, but they don't tend to reply much, so does anyone here have any information on thiscard, have you seen a copy elsewhere, and is there a way to date these?

Re: H. J. King Postcards?
Hi, Sorry I meant to mention this in my previous reply. Yes he was. I've come across reference to his aerial photography. He ran a few slide shows on the subject. I believe he also dabbled with airborne infra-red photography, to penetrate cloud etc, of the sort used in the Himalayas on one of the ex...

Re: H. J. King Postcards?
Hi, and thanks for the reply. Seeing Spurling and King together is great as it confirms, as I realised must be the case, the men were friends, and worrying for the same reason, because it raises the question of whether they might have used each other's photos at times. But I am making progress on th...

H. J. King Postcards?
Hi, does anyone know if amateur Launceston photographer, and motorbike lover, Herbert J King ever had hus work produced as postcards. There's a manipulated image he created showing a thylacine from Beaumaris superimposed onto a view of Cradle Mountain. In the lower right hand corner is a copyright n...

Re: POSTCARDS ON KODAK PAPER - IS IT POSSIBLE TO "DATE" THEM?
Fantastic, thank you. Although I'm in Britain I'm utterly useless at tracing anything this end. I had tried but got nowhere at all. The only thing I can say about the earliest date is based on the appearance of the bears, they're still fairly young, so that puts it at about 1925. As an aside these t...

Re: Real Photo cards by D.I.C. (Fellowes)
Fabtastic. That one is not often seen, certainly I've not seen it before anyway. Date wise, I think it's around 1925. The original pair arrived from Melbourne in 1924, after a while the female took sick and was expected to die, so they brought in a replacement for her. She didn't die, not then at le...

Re: STEPHEN SPURLING III - Interesting Real Photo cards, etc
I've read the section on number 3. I found a reference there to an article of his and bought it via The Trove/ or LINC I'm never sure. Unfortunately it turned out to be a dead end.

Re: Real Photo cards by D.I.C. (Fellowes)
Fantastic. Thanks to Mike here, and his kindly supplying me with some key information, W. Fellowes has a become a person of interest to me. Not least because I know strongly suspect I have one of his postcards. I do have a very important question though, does anyone know if he was ever involved in t...

Re: STEPHEN SPURLING III - Interesting Real Photo cards, etc
Does anyone have any idea of any archival records, relating to Steven Spurling III? I've read the excerpt of his biography on line, have checked the Trove, and purchased an article if his published in the Bengal Natural History Society, and will be contactjng LINC Tasmania. But I was wondering if an...

Re: POSTCARDS ON KODAK PAPER - IS IT POSSIBLE TO "DATE" THEM?
If this is of any help: I have a postcard printed on type 'D' paper. Date of the photograph is apr 1925, the subject is two polar bears at Beaumaris, which arrived in 1924 as cubs, and in the photo the animals are still sub-adults. The card itself was purchased and sent sometime after 1932, there's ...

Hi, and thanks for letting me join
Hi all, I found this board via a search for a man who I'll be researching quite a lot in the coming months, Steven Spurling III. I believe I might own one of his postcards, the photo is of two polar bears at Beaumaris, taken around 1925, when the bears were of the right age as they appear in the pho...
