Re: 1908 US Fleet Cards
My late colleague Neil Russell had an extensive collection of Fleet Cards, both Official and Private. Before it was sent to Abacus for disposal I took a scan. Would it be of interest if I posted tha scans to the board or enabled a lik?

Re: Instructional Markings
Allen Please try to get hold of a copy of my monograph "Tasmania: Informative and Instructionalk Markings" published as a supplement to the BSAP Bulletin October 2008. I know that Ross has a copy and I think I sent one to the TPS, so it should be in the library. "Cannot be Found" is relatively commo...

Re: Underpaid Instructional Marking 1919
Only ten years before I noticed this one. Mail from Waratah would most likley have gone through Launceston., which had its own 39/CTMS/T, and I suspect that there might have been two of theese handstamps, one at Hobart and one at Launceston. I would also comment that similar instructionals exist for...

I would not disagree. I checked my online index and find that I have 43 of his cards, mostly mint. Quite a few relate to special events. I noted a number of "Regatta" cards and a couple for Coronation Day 1911.
I will find a few and post images.

Re: Tasmania Official Paid CDS
Motivated by finding this, I thought I would have a quick trawl through my Frank Stamp display to see what I could find. All the examples were in red, from Hobart. The dates range from 1894 to 1901 and are 13/02/94; 29/06/94; 20/07/95; 6/04/96; 17/04/99; 12/05/99; 24/07/00; 09/04/01. I also noticed ...

Re: FRANK STAMPS - record latest use here
I have a Franked cover from the Secretary General Post Office that is dated 20th December 1902.
However, In my write-up I state that the Frank Stamp was used as late as 1904. I think this information came from Randall Askeland, on whose collection mine is based.

Re: Officially sealed labels
As Bill is aware, I used to own both a VR and an ER label in my Postal Markings collection. They are very scarce, but they are in my monograph "Tasmania: Informative & Instructional Handstamps published as a supplement to the BSAP Bulletin in 2008. Here is the section on these labels, which I have k...

Roger I am not as lucky as you, as I only have three of the illustrated envelopes CTO. (though I do have a full set used) They are all the same date as yours. It is interesting to know that others exist. I would think that they were prepared to show what was available on the formation of the Commonw...

A colleague has recently acquired the MS cancel on SG14 shown below. I looks a bit like a 14, but I would welcome an expert opinion.

Re: DEFICIENT POSTAGE / FINE (TO PAY) HANDSTAMPS
I am now the proud and happy owner of this item. It is, I believe a portion of the wrapping applied to a package of photographs that weighed just under 6 ozs. The sender paid the packet rate of 1d per 2oz, being 3d. However, I guess that the sender did not comply with the packet regulation and leave...

Talawa Cover Reverse.jpg Talawa Cover Front.jpg I have recently been sent scans of a 1916 cover (scruffy) that features a clear strike of Talawa on the cover. Tasmania: the CTMS/T Tax Markings
Following a recent email exchange with Ross Ewington, he has asked me to post the current table that I maintain for numbers seen and ERD/LRD for the recorded CTMS/T Tax marks of Hobart and Launceston. Note that the post-1939 handstamp with a value of 13⅓ was not originally included, but I am aware o...

Correction to Literature
In the course of responding to an item description in the recent TSA online sale, I noted that there is a typographical error in my monograph "Tasmania - The Informative and Instructional Markings" published by BSAP in 2008. On page 20, penultimate paragraph, the date should read 13/1/08, NOT 13/10/...

Re: Sixpence Pictorial with Compound Perforations
In that the vendor claimed a 'compound perforation', it is perhaps worth recording that Lancaster states (p.87) that "no compound perforation has been reported" (for lithographs issued from 1908) and (p.102) "both (12½ and 11) gauges are found in compound and mixed perforations and are scarce." (for...

Re: TOURIST PROMOTION LABELS - "Come to Tasmania", etc

Dealer Willard Allman has in stock a wonderful Tas Tourist Board envelope, but its price is beyond my means. I have a similar but much scruffier example somewhere that...

Another dangerous item to look out for. I have recently seen fakes of Beer Duty labels offered on EBay. Clearly described as fakes by the vendor, but what happens when that are offered again by an unscrupulous buyer?
I have not bothered to post images, but could probably find some.

Re: WERE CUT-OUT PTPO ENVELOPE INDICIA VALID FOR USE IN 1890
When there was an active Australian States Study Group of the Royal, I remember that David Cronin from Canada sent us an image of a Victoria card with cut-out indicia used to prepay a Registered Postcard (!) I will see whether I can find an image in the records of the meetings, just to show an examp...

I have a small range (six at present) of Valentine's cards with two round pictures in sepia on them. The 1904 1½d on 5d stamp
I recently acquired on EBay a cover sent registered from Launceston to Melbourne, dated 21 NO 1912. Postage was prepaid by a 1d pictorial and 2 x 1½d on 5d, to make up the 1d interstate rate plus 3d registration. The right hand stamp of the pair (which is clearly a joined pair) has the '1' of the ov...
