Fingal Railway Cancel
First 'CANCELLED / FINGAL' i have been able to buy.
These small stations appear to be getting quite hard to find with little turning up in auction.

Re: Fingal Railway Cancel
I agree - they are very elusive. Apart from Hobart, Launceston and Devonport, any other similar cancel seems to attract a lot of interest. Stations you would think were more common such as Wynyard or Stanly seem to be quite elusive as well.

Re: Fingal Railway Cancel
Pete has anybody done a station name rarity listing per issue from common to R5? If not there’s a project going begging.

Re: Fingal Railway Cancel
Dave,
Yes and no. The new John Hardinge book on Tasmanian date stamps lists the cds types found on Railway Parcel stamps and gives them a rarity rating by Office. As you know, some are also seen on postage stamps be they Postal, Railway or even telegraph cancels so this listing is not specifically for cds on Parcel stamps.
I have thought for some time it would be worth doing some research specifically on the cds on Parcel stamps . I have the impression, and its only an impression, that there are variations in some of the date stamps that may not have been recorded and certainly it would be interesting to attempt a complete listing of railway stations, cds types and rarity. Perhaps Ingles article in the Courier on county cancels on parcel stamps covers all the known ones but I dont think anyone has done an up-date since that was published.
If and when I get time I wouldn't mind have a good look at this or happy to share information with anyone else who takes the project on.
