RAILWAY PARCEL CANCELS - POST YOURS HERE
RAILWAY PARCEL CANCELS - POST YOURS HERE
I just received these from an ebay seller. I don't believe two cancels have been previously seen- Colebrook and Claremont, ( ref John Hardinge, Courier Edition 52, p8) . These two are straight line railway issue type R4 rubber. The Devonport has certainly been seen before. I think its "Devonport Cancelled", date on 1 line in the centre.
If anyone has seen these before I'd be most interested to hear. There are many other not yet seen railway cancels - see the above reference . The article appeared in the most recent edition of The Courier and is a fascinating account of a little-know aspect of railway/telegraph/postal history.
Any other examples of these cancels would also be most appreciated.

CANCELLED STANLEY ....what a pity about the stamp!
Re: RAILWAY PARCEL CANCELS - POST YOURS HERE
A couple of interesting Railway Parcel Stamp cancells.
The first two are "Cancelled / Launceston W. L." which stands for Wharf Line so John Hardinge tells me. As this is not a post office cancel it is not recorded in John Hardinge's recent book. I believe its quite scarce
The other cancel is Parcels Office Launceston oval (II) (24 Feb 1927 - 20 Sep 1933). As this is a Post Office canceller, one wonders how it came to cancel a railway parcel stamp. The date is 2? Dec 1932. Rated 3R for complete strikes ( on postally cancelled parcels, we dont have a formal rarity rating for strikes on parcel stamps as far as I am aware. )
