Dave, thanks for that. Do you (or does anyone else) have an idea of the life of this cancel, when first seen and how long did it last ?

I have never kept records of an EKD or LKD.
Good idea to do so.
I will get to it and publish here asap.

My EKD & LKD Stamp Act [type I] Cancel is 24 October 1899 & 24 Sep 1917
My EKD & LKD Stamp Act [type II] Cancel is 23 July 1913 & 7 April 1936
I am sure others will have earlier and later dates.

Dave,
would you be able to illustrate your "Type II" please? - I can't picture it.

Re: Stamp Act Datestamps - are there THREE types

Whilst following the discussion on the 1s on 3d Numeral, I noticed two of the
revenues illustrated to have been cancelled with a datestamp with the date in two lines
but with smaller letters than the well-known "dot stop" type.

Pictured above are the two types described by Dave in the topic "Stamp Act Marking...?"
http://tps.org.au/bb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=169#p593
Inserted in between the two is what may be Type 1(ii) !!
Am I seeing things (and should stick to postal markings and postcards) or is this something that
has been overlooked in the past?

I purchased this STAMP ACT cancel today. Based on the information above, it is a type 1 cancel and the EKU. The previous date being in October 1899. Has it been determined that the cancel was only for fiscal use or was it also for postal use??

The 6d stamp was available for both postage and revenue up to 30 November 1900
so Jerry's example is a nice example of correct fiscal usage.

I am open to correction but my understanding is the Stamp Act CDS was only used for revenue cancellation purposes. It was not a postal cancel . I am guessing it was used by State Government Revenue Agencies, presumably Treasury, when canceling stamps used for revenue purposes on documents. Does anyone have any definitive ( no pun intended) information on the usage and location of this CDS ?

This type of CDS was first issued in the second half of 1890 and continued to be issued until late 1900. Therefore, the earliest date could be from 1890 on.

To the best of my knowledge, this datestamp was never used for postal purposes. It would have been probably been used at The Treasury to cancel revenue stamps only.
Fiscally used Pictorials, especially the higher values are elusive ...here's an example of a 6d Pictorial cancelled with the Type 1 Stamp Act datestamp in May 1900.
