RATING T PERFINS on AUSTRALIAN DECIMAL ISSUES - A LISTING

by Ross Ewington
There has been quite a lot of research into the official "T" perfin of Tasmania and it's use over many decades.

This topic is devoted entirely to the T perfin as used on Australian decimal issues by the Tasmanian Government
from 1966 through to 1975
(when the practice of applying the perfin apparently ceased). This doesn't mean that I'm
not interested in the perfin as applied to pre-decimal and Tasmanian stamps since 1902 ..... it's just that I'd like to
"start simple" and a well-defined period of only nine years is a "gift".

Another reason for "starting simple" is based on the fact that I would like to assign a provisional rarity rating for each stamp
issue to which the perfin was applied. The rating system I will use is based upon subjective rather than empirical evidence and should
not be compared with rarity ratings applied to Tasmanian postmarks.

Naturally, I wish to keep the ratings simple. Therefore, I will use the letter "C" to denote COMMON, "S" for SCARCE (not easily found but an
example can be obtained without too much effort if you know where to look), "X" for RARE (seldom seen but persistent searching
will be eventually be successful) and "XX" for VERY RARE (good luck with your searching ... you may be lucky some day!)

TPS BB members are invited to submit images of T perfins in this topic ... suggested rarity ratings will be welcomed as will be any comments
about T perfins already listed.

On a regular basis I will add each perfin and provisional rarity rating to the list below so that the information can be readily checked in this "first post".

That's a nice little lot Andrew ..... am I right in assuming that the 5c Thornbill has a double horizontal bar
to the "T". If it does, would you be able to post a scan with both sides "for the record" please .....(I've not seen
a perfin variation on this stamp before)?

I must use my reading glasses more often when using my computer too! :?
