Hi:
I am an american collector - novice, but with some older collections. Several of my collections have Tasmanian stamps, including an "1880 One Penny", two "1905 Hobart" pictorials, and two "1900 Mount Wellington" stamps. I'm having trouble locating information and values on these stamps. Is there a reference on this site or can anyone help me with this?
Much appreciated.

Re: American collector
Hi Gary,
Welcome to the Tasmanian Philatelic Society's online forum (TPS BB).
For basic information about Tasmanian stamps, either catalog listing in Scott or Stanley Gibbons Part 1 (the concise British Commonwealth catalogs are a little too concise in my opinion)
will provide a reasonable amount of detail about all issues.
I wouldn't worry too much about values at this stage as most of the Pictorial stamps (particularly the 1d and 2d values) were printed by the million. What can make them valuable though are
postmarks with some selling (if found) in the $1000 to $3000 range which makes Tassie circular datestamps among the most valuable in a global sense. There is lots of information
about Tasmanian postmarks on the TPS BB which could provide at least an hour or two of reading!
If you have any queries about particular items, please post it in the appropriate category/topic and someone is likely to respond without much of a wait.
best regards
