Wanted - A "Proving Strike" of any Tasmanian steel datestamp

#1 Post by Ross Ewington » Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:51 pm

I collect Tasmanian postmarks "as they were used" ....on Radio Licence receipts, post office stationery, Post Office Savings Bank passbook pages, as transit or backstamps and so on. The only usage I'm not particularly interested in is for the cancellation of postage stamps.

Proving or sample strikes of Tasmanian datestamp exist and I need an example for my collection. I remember missing out over 25 years ago on acquiring a fine strike of the Type 5s Chain Of Lagoons dating from 25MR63 ... at least a couple of months before issue. If only I'd remembered to mail my bid. :(

Can anyone help me? If you have an image of a 'proving strike' of any Tassie postmark that I can post here to assist me with my search, please let me know.

I have a number of examples of 'per favour' sample strikes on blank sheets (probably all ex-Askeland). Do these count?
