hi i am wondering if anyone can help . trying to find reference on a 6 ring bullseye cancel on the 1st stamp in pic . have seen some 4 ring ones on tas and wa forgeries but never seen a 6 ring. can anyone help. thanks neal

I have never seen this one either Niel. Does the stamp have a fiscal cancel underneath that has been bleached out. IF so, it's probably not a postal marking but something made by a collector to hide the cleaning of the 6d, which is much more commonly fiscally used.

There’s a 6-circle postmark of Dominica which looks almost identical. I think it may have been used in maritime mail handling.
Up-date - it appears Gambia and a number of other British colonies also used concentric circle postmarks.
How such a cancel would get on a Tas stamp is difficult but not impossible to explain. It could well be the marking was applied as part of some Ship Mail process or by a post office of another country as a transit or receipt mark. A google search for concentric circle postmarks will identify examples from eBay and elsewhere for comparison.

Its certainly not Tasmanian in origin.

Neal, in my opinion its only a curiosity rather than a rare item for a Tasmanian collector ( others may disagree). If it was on a cover it would be a different story. Maybe it has some interest to collectors in the country where the postmark originated if you can pin it down. My brief internet search suggested this postmark, or similar markings were not uncommon.

whats the best light to put under to find it,as only using normal light

cleaned fiscal cancels will usually become visible under ultraviolet ....... otherwise, the largest scan you can make (1200dpi and higher) should be good enough to view the remains of a fiscal cancel
