6d Chalon Imperf at Bottom
Attached is a 6d Chalon perf 11 1/2 (1871 series) from the bottom row of the sheet. The stamp has the watermark doubled-lined 6 with 5 horizontal lines at bottom indicating outer edge of sheet. The stamp lacks the bottom row of perforations making an imperforate at bottom variety. Can anyone tell me if this Is a common variety or normal occurrence for this issue? It is the first one I've seen on this issue, but I haven't studied these perforated stamps in detail. Thanks.

This variety seems to be missing from Gibbons' catalogue, Robson Lowe's Encycopaedia, Vol. 4
and from Tinsley's book (1986). It is probably quite rare. I am not sure if this variety has ever
been offered in auction but I could ask around.
